I live in Evergreen, Co and I'm actually goin to a doctor for my recommend in about 2 hours. I'm kinda giddy like a schoolgirl for the weed store, but you probably know how that feels lol.

The bong I have is a short fat one. It looked cool so I bought it. I slways fill the bong up with ice completely lol, all the way up the neck as well.

Is there an advantage to a taller one over a shorter fat one.... or that double perc. one someone mentioned above?

I'm going to pass on the vaporizer completely since the $70 would basically be worthless lol. I have too many expensive hobbies as it is to drop $500~ to smoke pot haha.

I'm not sure if there is an advantage to taller vs shorter, aside from how much smoke you can fit in it. That's actually a good question that I'd be interested in as well. From personal experience, I can say that a taller bong that can hold more smoke if you guys are doing contests on who can take the biggest hit, or trying to kill a whole bowl in one try. Aside from that though I can't think of an advantage, and if you guys are casually smoking and just passing it around taking normal sized hits (probably what most of us do on normal smoking sessions) then nobody really cares how much smoke you can fit in it, because a good hit doesn't necessarily mean the most smoke you can get down. I always thought it was kind of bad etiquette to take a super massive hit unless that was what everyone was doing or you were seeing who could hold down the biggest hit.

A percolator basically just means another area of water that the smoke has to pass through before it gets to you. This will help filter it out and also cool it down, which is why you generally use cold water instead of hot (anyone ever tried filling the bong with hot water? It's a pretty weird experience). To give you an example, a basic pipe that just is a bowlpiece, hole on the side, and then a hole to inhale is going to give you very hot smoke that is very hard to hold down without coughing up a lung. The main upside to smoking from a bong is how much cooler and easier on your lungs the smoke is, adding more percolators that the smoke needs to pass through just means the smoke will be that much cooler, allowing you to take bigger hits without hurting your lungs.


Damn, that's a really long response to a pretty simple question. Sorry for the wall-o-text, I guess I'm just passionate about the subject lol.

tl;dr: Size doesn't matter much to my knowledge, but I could be wrong. Percolators filter the smoke and make it cooler as well as easier to hold down.

most of the better bongs will be found in person because of natural lighting and being able to feel the quality of the glass & craftsmanship. a lot of times a new slider can be as sick as a new bong, so don't be shy with those either.

I've always been under the impression that using any other liquid than water takes away from the intensity of the high. Is that a misconception, or what?

Red wine idea is hilarious, I can't imagine that working well at all but definitely see why you would try it. I don't really see why it'd take away from the high, unless maybe the other chemicals in the liquid can catch the THC so it doesn't pass through?

Arizona Iced Tea. Used to use it to roll joints instead of saliva. The paper tasted good, dunno if it effected the weed taste.

i usually just smoke my water pipe, mini bong with a clutch (or carburetor). i don't smoke my vapo anymore as its a bit of a hassle since i only smoke out side since i have a little one and i dont want anything to get to her.

not to mention that my wife isnt allowed to smoke cigs in the house either so if i broke that rule id get skull bashed.

The biggest con of a vaporizer for me is that I enjoy the act of smoking.

This right here.. I've tried just about every method out there, and nothing compares to the experience I get when I smoke a blunt. If you smoke it right you don't get too much coughing, and the high comes on nice & mellow.

I think preference comes down more to how you're brought into the world of smoking weed tho.. for me it was having my good friend teach me how to roll my shit really tight (like thin as a straw) because it burned slower & conserved buds.. then again we'd usually smoke like 3-5 blunts a night back in those days.

Also as far as bongs go, I am generally a fan of clear ones. Painted ones look somewhat cooler (well for some people I guess) but you can't see the hit you are getting at all, which to me is a huge annoyance. Size doesn't matter a whole lot as other ppl said, just as long as it isn't too ridiculously small. Mine is about a foot and a half tall with clear glass and a great slider. Love my baby.

Blunts are great though...I just always sucked ass at rolling them. Pained me to smoke good stuff in blunts, but if I have a bunch of shit even I will make my sorry attempts to roll some out. It is definitely a skill worth acquiring.
