PS3 ethernet cable fail

Got a PS3 for christmas and went to connect the ethernet cable for lagless modern warfare 2 pwnage, but after I connected the cable to the PS3, it would immediately start saying "no ethernet cable connected". I had been using the cable to play world at war on the wii with basically zero lag, so it wasn't the problem there. Now, I'm probably going to bring my PS3 to the dorms since there is nothing going on here... so I'm going to need the ethernet cable since in the previous topic my router is being gay. I never actually tried to go online with the ethernet cable since my whole house has wireless (lagged too much on wii, no dedicated servers).

Now, my question is, is the PS3 being stupid, or is the ethernet jack on the PS3 faulty?

Try another CAT5 cable first?

When the router turns off, It will give the "An ethernet cable has been disconnected" error. That be where your problem lies.
