Earlier today I watched a 6 minute clip of the movie that was comprised of snippets of different scenes. Based on this clip, I'm thinking the federation is infiltrated by another race.

If it was already discussed, my bad. Haven't been keeping up with this thread.

    Press release:

IMAX theatres are reporting sell-outs of its special “STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS” sneak peek shows on Wednesday, May 15th, with showings in Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Seattle, Austin, San Francisco, Houston, San Diego and Minneapolis now at capacity. Interest continues to be strong at other IMAX locations across the country, which are offering fans the opportunity to be the first to see the film at 8:00 p.m. that evening. In response, Paramount Pictures has moved the film’s Friday, May 17th release up a day to May 16th.

Tickets are available on the film’s first-of-its-kind movie App, a technology that allows users to delve deeper into the Star Trek universe, and can also be accessed via IMAX.com or through Fandango.com, Movietickets.com, as well as other ticketing platforms and at theatre box offices. While supplies last, all 8:00 p.m. IMAX fan sneak attendees will receive a limited-edition IMAX FANFIX™ “Star Trek” Gallery 1988 movie print by Mark Englert.

The IMAX release of “STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS” will feature approximately 30 minutes of footage filmed with the extremely high-resolution IMAX® cameras. These specific sequences, which will expand to fill more of the screen exclusively in IMAX, will deliver unprecedented crispness and clarity and a truly immersive experience for moviegoers.

Paramount’s “STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS,” based upon “Star Trek” created by Gene Roddenberry, is written by Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman & Damon Lindelof and directed by J.J. Abrams. Abrams is producing with Bryan Burk through Bad Robot Productions, along with Lindelof, Kurtzman and Orci. Jeffrey Chernov and Skydance Productions’ David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake are the executive producers.

“STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS” opens in theaters everywhere May 16th, 2013.

So, I booked a ticket a month ago for tomorrow night. I couldn't wait another day so I've also booked a ticket for today. 2 hours and 20mins before I see it!

    Well, I saw it.
    Spoiler: show
It was okay, not as good as the first. The music was pretty much the same as the previous, nothing really stood out except for the theme they used throughout. I'm not a fan of the 'whoops he's dead, no he isn't' scenarios. The last Batman film got me in that respect and I keep falling for it. I liked that there was no love story per say, unless you count the one between Kirk and Spock ha ha. Spock got more emotional over Kirk than over Uhura.

    Confirming EU status (Norway)!
    Slightly more awake now
This is of course all subjective, but I found it to be easily one of the best Star Trek movies, I do think I got a lot more out of than my friends, them just being general enjoyers and me being a long time fan, simply due to the massive amount of references to the other movies, shows, books etc.
47 years later, they still manage to cram in a discussion/critique of the development of todays society (though not very subtle!)
Having watched this movie, I start to wonder if maybe J.J. Abrams in a new Star Wars movie might just be precisely what that other franchise needs.

(I should probably throw in a disclaimer about a couple of drinks before the movie, but meh!)

Thoroughly enjoyed it! However, I wished the IMAX could've shown the 2D version...3D wasn't necessary at all.

the 3D was okay, better than a lot of fake 3D i've seen.
It was entertaining and I like the movie, would rate 7/10.

Saw it in 2D yesterday while waiting in Singapore for my next flight. Terrific, even better than the first one (which I highly enjoyed) and Cumberbatch is stunning. 8.5/10

If JJ can pull this on Star Wars, then we're in for a treat.

Guess I'm going to be in the minority here, but I hated it. I don't ask a lot of action movie plots, but I do ask that they be free of holes. This movie has holes you could drive a truck through. Also, the lensflare didn't bother me in the first movie, but in this movie it's actually a fucking distraction from the action on screen.
