Just got back from watching it. Was not expecting to like it this much. It was unexpectedly funny. I could not find a single character I didn't like. Stupid question inside spoiler tag.

    Spoiler: show
I'm just assuming this is what they did here, but when young Spock was talking to his older self was that like a call back to the original movies?
An alternate universe I guess. Sort of like yeah this is how we handled it but I cant tell you what to do, do what you think is right. I haven't watched the first in awhile so I don't really remember how they explained the Spock situation

Yes, it was a callback to Prime Universe Spock's encounter with Khan. Spock naturally couldn't answer the question because if he did he'd have had to reveal to his alternate universe self that he died saving the crew from Khan's attack. It's why he takes a pause and says do what you think is right and so we get Kirk in the radiation chamber and Spock taking down Khan. Both alternate universe Kirk/Spock still get the brofist, the "you have and always will be my friend" bonding and the encounter with Khan.

On a practical level the scene was merely there to give Nemoy his cameo.

The Spock situation is basically that prime universe Spock is stranded in the past on an alternate timeline because of his failed attempt to save Romulus from a supernova. The alternate movie timeline is a result of Spock/Nero's actions. Prime Spock is busy rebuilding the Vulcan civilization presumably with his vast knowledge of technology from the future.

Really enjoyed it. Main plot holes? Mainly just didn't get a few things
    Spoiler: show
Sitting above Kronos for so long and no Birds? Why did Marcus leave the other 72 dudes in the torpedoes? Kill them and just give Kirk regular torpedoes or the new torpedoes, sans people? Couldn't have Marcus just killed Khan's crew, taken his ship and deployed the torpedoes from the edge of the neutral zone, as per his orders to Kirk? What need was there even to bother with Khan, for Marcus? Get a fix on him on Kronos (because, apparently, they can scan for a single human on a planet on the edge of the neutral zone on Kronos), fire torpedoes, start a war and get rid of Khan in one shot? Or, if he can fire while at warp, warp past Kronos and fire the torpedoes, if he's concerned with the Klingons having proof of Starfleet having started the war? It wasn't really specified, but were we not supposed to notice that Khan and crew were in 300 year old humans in life support pods, which would put them at having been made and used in the 1960s? Who did the sabotage on the Enterprise when it arrived at/near Kronos? An agent before the ship had left, or was it supposed to be somebody still on the ship? Why was it necessary to hide the Enterprise underwater in the beginning? Could they not have flown a shuttle from orbit down, or just beamed it in? Edit: Just realized even 250 years could be as early as 3 years ago.

    I don't know why but

    Spoiler: show
I find it funny the 2nd reboot/alt universe movie has Khan in it like the 2nd movie did. Wrath of Khan but less memorable stuff than switching expected scenes up.

Yeah some of those don't make much sense, but I can try and answer a few.
    Spoiler: show
I don't think Marcus wanted to kill Khan or his crew, at least not yet. It seemed like he wanted to use them as weapons of war still and then dispose of them when it was all over.

Khan and his group are from a time that predates when the original series takes place, so even with the alternate timeline, that's a part of history that shouldn't have changed (even if the science behind it is wrong based on present day). That's one area where the writers would have to decide whether or not they wanted to please the fans or be historically accurate.

I think what bothers me most about this movie is how anticlimactic the ending was due to how easily predictable it is. I would have liked to see the original Spock give his life again for the Enterprise and her crew, and for Khan to have gotten away with or without his crew.

The teleporting from Earth to Kronos kind of bothered me too. Even if that was possible in this stories universe, that's opening up a huge can of worms in terms of the possibilities that would unlock. I was a little shocked at how easily and quickly the new Dreadnaught class ship ripped through the Enterprise too. Almost to the point that ship could have taken out all of the Klingons and Starfleet combined.

I could see why people wouldnt like it, there were things that made me go eehhhh... but I loved all the nods to the original timeline stuff.

Oh there was one thing I didnt like about the movie. The bald black lady on the deck was gross. Was that a cyborg on the deck also? I thought Data was the first cyborg.

lol Bald black lady had one line in the whole movie I think. She looks so familiar. Loved the cyborg if you are talking about the bald white guy.

There was a part where they switch scenes to a bar and there's two aliens just tonguing at each other. I looked over at my friend whose face just about made me die in the theatre. It was one of these faces

    Spoiler: show
I loved the scene where they are all getting beat on the deck of the Dreadnaught ship.
I wasn't expecting Khan to be so brutal there. The way he just slapped Carol and crushed her leg when she fell made me cringe. It got even worse when he crushed her fathers head.

Also did any other Doctor Who fans notice Mickey in the beginning of the movie.

I literally grew up watching Star Trek, 87 to 05, TNG to Enterprise (and even the full run, midnight airings of TOS that UPN did in the 90s).
I have no problems with the new films.

    Spoiler: show
Though, if there isn't a deleted scene setting up that the dead tribble was Chekov's pet, I'm going to slap a dude.

Also, the bald black lady is the dirty cop from Cult, if anyone watched that.
And the cyborg on deck was probably a Bynar, http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/11001001_%28episode%29

Not didn't like it. More... were bored at times due to predictability. I'm guessing they won't do remakes like this again after the feedback they get. If your not a trekkie, you won't notice the difference.

The bald black lady was on trueblood for a season too. I noticed her for that, but more because everyone in the future seems fit and healthy, then a big lady like her is featured sitting down like it's a cameo that she really doesn't... fit in...

Enjoyed the film, despite some of over use of stuff from the original Wrath of Khan. But seriously, it's time for a new Star Trek TV show.

Based on this universe, with these actors.
