Hobbits have hairy feet and smoke pipes. Gnome men have facial hair (Handlebar moustach, anyone?) and can be bald/balding. Gnome women haz teh breasteses. Children have none of these.

Tarutaru are a precocious race of kindergarteners. Sorry, it's true. (Note: This isn't a bad thing. I am, myself, a taru.)

On a more on topic note, don't lalafel seem like prepubescent children in comparison? I like the change. It seems like I won't have to roll something big just to appreciate my armor now!

No one is able to define the race except SE.

I preferred being a chubby little toddler.

I initially disliked the whole idea of not being just a smidgen on the screen (doing amazing things.) But when I see them next to the other races, the new tarus are still the cutest in comparison, and cute in their own right I'm just going to make a slightly "grown-up" version of my ffxi taru :D

Nice way of thinking about it 8 years to advance a few more inches of virtual height!

Taru/Lalafell have been described by SE as being child like in their appearance and not just their size.

Like seriously, when I played Scholar I was pretty disappointed when for my AF I got the Jacket and the Pants on my female taru instead of the jacket and the skirt like all the other females of the other races. That's the kind of stuff I don't want to see again.
IIRC, male and female Lalafell each have different emotes and animations. If this is the case, it's highly possible that this time around they'll have different armors as well, so you may just get your wish. Unlike Taru Taru, Lalafell actually have legs...with knees! So it's far more possible that differences between male and female clothing may present themselves. I mean, to me, personally, the outfit the female Lalafell Conjurer is wearing looks a lot more dress like compared to the robes the male Hume Thaumaturge is wearing.

That's what I noticed too. But then again even Galka and Elvaan had their proportions modified and changed around to be a bit more...realistic-ish. Galka look less beastlike and more man like this time around, which is a similar change between taru...with their massive heads and no knees...and Lalafell...who really do look like little kids.

The best thing that small characters have going for them is the way it 'feels' to run. In XI I played as taru and it was absolutely brutal muling to galka or elvaan mules. Even though I knew they ran at the same speed it just seemed so much slower since they take a longer stride and therefore fewer steps. Hopefully everything will be faster in 14, but I'll still probably use a smaller class to avoid feeling like I have perma gravity on.

I thought I was imagining this! I only played a non-taru once. However, I remember noting to me friend, whose elvaan I was playing, that his char ran almost unbearably slow in comparison.

Because human instincts change slowly. In human-body years the internet is pretty old, but in human-behavior years it is barely toddling.

Mithra also felt quicker than elfs or galka. It's weird but definately true

Taru feel fastest, because our little legs just bound across Saruta like a gazelle and still keep up with the tall races.

Everyone felt slow. Galka actually "felt" the fastest to me, because they covered the most ground in the fewest steps, but everyone was slow.

If you think anyone "feels" fast, run from Bastok to Windurst on foot and get back to me on how fast people feel.

Heh, reminds me of that chocobo quest. If you made it there in half an hour flat, you were fast.
