oh fuck the hell off, both of you, with the acceptance/tolerance angle (day you're probably trolling but fuck you anyway). Asking people to be tolerant of intolerance is not valid, at all.

I am not tolerant of your intolerance of differences Beckwin.
What happens to all those housewives who spend 20-25 years raising children and cleaning houses when their children are all grown up?
That is the real problem with only doing these two things without any other interest. That's why you can't find fulfillment in raising children: it's over 20 years and you can't redo. Sure, it's great to say that's your choice and you're proud of that, but what will you do when it's gone and you've dulled your mind into mush? It's very, very difficult to start something new in your 40s or 50s when you've spent the last quarter century doing nothing but caring for children.
A career is something you can keep doing for a long time, as well as other hobbies and interests. They don't need to take away from your children and house, but can augment it.
Are you implying that housewives don't have hobbies and interests? That is a stereotype (and wrong), not a definition. Many arguing even claim housework is not a full-time job, so what do you think these women are doing the rest of the time?
When my mom was a housewife (when my sister and I weren't old enough for school), she didn't just do housework. She enjoys gardening, painting (which she was fucking awesome at), and sewing. All things that aren't hobbies she would want to make a living out of, but enjoyed it (and still does) greatly, and that was what she was doing with her extra time. Also, she really got stuff done around the house. By that I mean, if a pipe wasn't working, she fixed it, not a plumber. She remodeled our kitchen (my dad made the design, but she was the one tiling the floor). Note, this is because she loved to do it, not because she was forced to.
Was she really being a waste of space by getting to do what she loves doing just because they aren't "careers" and she wasn't getting income out of it? Was her brain really going to mush by painting instead of teaching at the time?
I think a lot in this thread don't know many housewives, and are stereotyping it to the fat chicks in like the south that have 10 kids and are on welfare, or like the chicks on Desperate Housewives or something. Again that is a stereo-type and that doesn't define a housewife. Most, believe it or not, aren't like that.
Heck, since living in CA, I live right next to the marine base. A lot of women there are housewives because they move around so much. However, that doesn't mean they're sitting on their asses all day long. Maybe that's why I don't look at them negatively, because I see them using their lives just as well as a "career" women, they just don't get income, and actually get to spend more time with their family and getting to do the things they enjoy doing.
Oh, go away. You're just repeating the same inane shit.
Good you had a mom that did something. Mine didn't. She didn't go to work after we started school. She didn't even finish high school and couldn't help me with my homework because of that. My sister is a fat mooch that still lives with my parents and will certainly outdo my mother in the laziness department.....and she doesn't even have a husband to support her lazy ass. The majority of house wife's and husbands are not the picture perfect kind like yours Ksandra. I will be the first person in my family to have a Bachelor's degree. Yes my family sucks....thats why I moved 1200 miles away from them. What I have seen from girls in highschool....they finished school yes and maybe some even went to college but all they do now is stay home with the children and are pretty darn worthless.
I worked while my ex-husband would stay home and take care of our son...but he couldn't even do that. The house was a complete mess everyday and he just stuck our son in an exersaucer in front of the TV while he played video games. I could go on and on about so many more people who are worthless pieces of shit and contribute NOTHING to society.
And I know just as many, if not more, that aren't like that. Tbh, I don't know anyone personally who is like who you described. Which again says to me you shouldn't generalize and assume all are like that. Just because you have had shitty experiences, doesn't mean all women will be/are like that.
[edit] and from what you described sounds like you got surrounded by a bad group of people (not by choice), but that has nothing to do with them being housewives. I bet most of them eat bread, doesn't mean people who eat bread are lazy.
Worth is financial security? Worth is emotional happiness? I get the feeling some are advocating that women should be striving for money (be it their own or their significant other's) at the expense of happiness, even though neither are mutually exclusive. A lot of people are worthless to me, in part because our paths will never cross, even if remotely indirectly. That doesn't mean they don't hold worth to others, though, and are simply total blights on society.
Then again, I gotta remember it's cool here to smoke pot in your home whenever you want, but eating some bon-bons and watching Oprah is a crime. Overall, if a woman chooses to be a housewife, I'm down with it. If it's a life they've fallen into, then the real tragedy comes into discerning why. Was it a failure in education? Environment? Physical health? Even if an answer is found, all one can do is hope history doesn't repeat for someone else, but it will if only by virtue of humans being imperfect and the arrogance that too often comes with "educated" opinions. I'm reminded of a saying, "A smart man knows everything, but a wise man knows he doesn't."
All this dirty laundry being aired this thread is amazing.
Then we better get a woman to wash it then.
This is the way my life is atm. She works part time because she wants to. I pay all the bills with tons extra. She takes care of me and all I do is come home from work and do w/e I want. Granted I do spend time with her because I enjoy it, and if she wants something I will stop playing a game to do w/e it is she needs. But only difference is I am the one who cooks. She hates cooking. I love it, its great.
I was simply responding to Ksandra and stating that not all people are perfect stay at home mom's or dad's. I know not all people are like that I was offering Ksandra another viewpoint.
Yes I believe people who are always looking for a handout from others, churches, or the government and mooch off of others without ever contributing to society are worthless.
What am I contributing to society?
I work as a certified nurse's assistant at a hospital and I am attending University of Colorado's Nursing school to earn a bachelors degree in nursing. I will then become a RN hopefully in Maternity/Family Care and then possibly go back to school for a Master's in Midwifery. Thats what I am contributing to this society, how about you?
I never implied all people were.
Yes, you are right moochers are worthless. But moochers =/= stay-at-home people, so really don't have anything to do with the thread.Yes I believe people who are always looking for a handout from others, churches, or the government and mooch off of others without ever contributing to society are worthless.
