Well I would have become a doctor if I was younger and wanted to become even more in debt.
A CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife) is basically a nurse practitioner that specializes in the care of women of childbearing years. Meaning they can do basically everything a OB/GYN can do except surgeries and certain procedures.

I never said I was against stay-at-home moms/dads....just against the worthless ones. Moochers does not always equal stay at home moms/dads but it certainly can.

I considered for a long time to be a Nurse Midwife, but I decided against it for the time being to just get my masters and be a Nurse Practitioner and go into Pediatrics. (Plus after going to college for 5 years straight out of high school, if I had to do anymore I'd kill myself.) It's something I'm still considering for the future.

I really enjoy it, the hours blow ass sometimes, like today I was supposed to work from 4am-4pm but we were running behind so I ended up having to stay till almost 5:30. But if it's something you really want to do, instead of just going into nursing for the paycheck, then it's not a problem at all. Like I said in an earlier post, and I talk to my friends about it all the time. It's really easy to pick out the people who picked up nursing because they want to pick up the paycheck, and don't care much at all for the people they treat. Those are the people I want to take a baseball bat to.

It is annoying at times when you get the random idiot who goes "Herp derp, you're just a nurse, I want to see a doctor." I just laugh to myself. It's amazing how many people don't know how much work we actually do.

Oh ya recently I have just been going to see my NP for check-ups and stuff. I mean doctors are good and everything but they are taught mainly to deal with diseases not people. Although I did have a great personable doctor when I lived in Texas.

I am also interested in Peds/NICU/PICU too but I think I like OB the best, but we'll see I have three semesters left still and have yet to do my Peds rotation.

Exactly! If you're here for a checkup, physical, certain exams, immunizations, or you need to talk about something, talk to me. I might be slightly biased but I see, talk to, and love my NP more than I see and talk to my Doctor, even though I love him.

If you've been having severe chest pain, numbness in your extremities, and dizziness when you stand up, or rainbow colored poop, then we bring the doctor in the room.

That sounds great though, it's always nice to see people who are excited about Nursing getting into it. Peds is great, but you have time to make your mind up. Good luck to you!

I always joke around with my friends who complain about nurses who can't hit the mark when they're taking blood, I always ask them if they were a dick to their nurse, and if so, that's the reason why she stabbed you like 6 times.

I don't think that at all, most of my interaction when I was hospitalized excessively this fall was with nurses, admittedly most were female (the male ones were too fucking rough putting in IVs but then again so were the female student nurses lol) and a fair number were cute but I digress. Also since all but 1 of the doctors/residents I also saw on a daily basis were also females them being cute and holding stuff for the doctor does lead to some delicious lesbian fantasies.

Nursing is a noble profession. It's not that housewifery isn't a profession (in the sense that it takes work and discipline), it's that it isn't one to civic-minded people because it has close to no direct impact on the civic environment. That's why there's the stereotype that women are ineffectual in the public sphere, which is something women like OP help convince us of. Take feminism or leave it (personally I'm tempted to say it's untenable after the injection of cynicism this thread has dosed me), but if you can't agree that women's status in society is contingent on their ability to involve themselves in more besides their narrow-scope private lives, you are a fucking moron.

I'm usually fine with needles but the roids make your veins really brittle and I felt like my hand/vein was burning while I was getting stuck the ~5 times it happened while I was being given steroids. I had a follow up blood test about a month and a half after I got out of the hospital and ~3 weeks after I finished weening the steroids and my vein still was burning as she inserted the needle.

When you're pregnant they take blood from you like every time you go in for a visit. I literally told a nurse to stop sticking me and find someone else to do it because she was never poking me again. I think she stuck me 2-3 times and it hurt....and my veins are not hard to get blood from....especially when pregnant...damn.
