Was the priest disc? That would explain a lot if you're not counting his absorbs.

healing meter means shit, there are fights that pally would own the meter, and there are fights that druid/priest healer would rape it and pally healers dont have a titty chance in hell of catching up no matter how good the skill/gear they got.

PLDs also didn't have shield mastery, so they didn't even use shields back then. Once they added shield mastery, PLDs became pretty much OP

To add the other healing meter thing, you have to consider overhealing which I'd guess happened as well :3

Oh, look, another person who doesn't mention how far they got into Icecrown Citadel. And you skipped blithely past the point when I indicated that healers are the least affected by iLevel. And you think that "Other players are sometimes bad" is a compelling argument.

we downed festergut. wiped 4 times on him then called it. we made it to fester in < 40minutes. who counts overheals? i topped overheals and healing done. also as far as paladins not being able to keep up to priests/druids in some fights, that hasn't happened with me yet and my gearscore is still under 5k compared to the other healers who are sport'n 5.4k gearscore sucks!

So, I'm not a healer, but uh, to me, over healing reads as wasting mana. Or is overhealing not healing someone more for more than their max HP pool?

I notice you ignored all the unvoiced questions about the Priest's spec. And you didn't mention what the average iLevel of the raid that was carrying you was. But, yeah, keep grouping with bad players if that's what it takes to justify not spending a nominal amount of time getting yourself geared sufficiently.

Yes that is what overhealing is, though currently healers have too much mana regen and don't have to worry about overhealing for the most part, especially holy paladins.

pretty sure priest wasn't disc. that's the only question / comment i feel is necessary to your response.

You seem to be plastered right to me, why is that? I'm hardly the only one pointing out the flaws in your logic.

But, you know, let's say it again: healers are the least gear-dependent. Higher iLevel allows a healer to do his job better. Higher iLevel for tanks and DPS, on the other hand, allows them to do their job, period. Adding 500 GS (by way of appropriate and powerful upgrades) improved my DPS substantially. Nothing else changed, I'm still using the optimal damage methods. Saying that you got into a carry group as one of two healers (with a Priest whose spec you're uncertain about) does not prove that iLevel (GearScore) is irrelevant.

However, GearScore is only a way of opening the door, it's not a be-all-end-all assessment of someone's contribution to the raid. You seem to think that it is, I suppose because you're apparently too lazy to bother doing a few more Heroics and getting your T9 gear.

    Tangent off of that:

Really, anyone with under a 4.8k gearscore is just lazy as fuck at this point. Girlfriend has a paladin, has for a while but never used it. (Was at like 3.2k gearscore for prot spec, little higher for ret spec.) Got tired of being required to MT heal on her tree, so said fuck this, respeccing paladin to Holy and let's gear that. In 3 days that thing went from no holy spec, no holy gear, to this, which is almost 5k gearscore, with very little effort and gold input. And there's even still more upgrades to make just from badges.

    Carry on.

I'd say WoW raiding is 55% gear & 45% skill (talking ICC)

    - A lot of fights require a decent number of the group to pull X-k dps to meet the enrage timer; (Festergut, Prof. Put.);

    - With a geared enough tank and basic rotation anyone can sit there and taunt back and forth

-There are fights you need to know your shit to do (Rotface, Prof. Put, Blood Princes)

FFXI is more 75% skill & 25% gear

-An ally of AH bought gear can take on just about anything in game long as they know how to tank and heal

-With rage timers of 30min and 1 hour with kings just about anyone should be able to produce the damage output needed, and fights like Tiamat go on for hours.....

-Dynamis can be done with anyone who know how to pull and CC

-Salavge is probably the only zone that you need gear and skill to complete because of the time requirements
Percentages are a nice way to break things down into a neat little package. But to me, here's the major difference. In FFXI, it was pretty easy to carry people who are terrible(in any sense of the word, gear/skill) through practically every fight in the game. In WoW, there are a bajillion occasions where one fuck-up can and will wipe the raid repeatedly.

I still think gearscore is the worst add on to ever be made. Sure, it's 'helpful' for your pugs but its pretty stupid, considering that everyones gone without it for this many years.

example: My shaman has over a 6k gearscore. I was always 3rd or 4th on healing meters, behind players with lower gear score. wheres the gearscore logic?

As much as gearscore sucks and is fail to judge anyone, complaining about it is just as annoying though especially if it didn't get you into a group, like people have said if you aren't lazy you can gear your character in heroics in like 3 days, easily obtaining like a 4.8k-5k GS which seems to be the average needed on my server to get into a pug. The only thing that annoys me about gearscore are the people that go around thinking they are gods gift, whilst my 5th alt is around the same gearscore as their main etc, i just shut up and get on with it though.

Typical example of Gearscore also was last night whilst doing HoS; Mage comes in going "god i feel bad for needing that blue my main is 5.2k Gearscore" He then proceeds to die in the fire on Brann escort twice the second time his excuse being "They had died, i didnt think the fire would still Zap me", Died in the Shadow circles on the maiden type fight, and finished on like 700 DPS.

This is why I'll never level a healer, though it could be because the idiots on vek'nilash are all about 'omg top of meters' without taking into account the fight mechanics at all

Edit: That sounds like a bad case of 'My main is so amazing I don't need to do well'

    Skill in WoW is

    1. Avoiding a fire , green/purple goo, black, red, blue voidzone, you're infected with x poison, conflag, weird ancient marking appeared under feet or whirlwind move the fuck away.

    2. Big bubble, bonespike, portal, volcano, big skeleton magical baddies dps switch targets.

    3. Spread out 5,8,12,15 yards to avoid iceblocks, dieases, bloodpower generation.

    4. Cleanse, purge, dispel, spellsteal etc.

    5. Stay behind the boss unless its a Dragon.

Follow these 5 steps and you become a pro-raider.

    7. Juggle dps on adds vs boss effectively.
