You're right to catch a predator is staged and that never happens and I just saw that other show about catching lightning bolts before they hit kids walking around outside, since that is just as common and all. It's pretty cool you should check it out.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    according to this site:

    http://childsafetips.abouttips.com/c...statistics.php

Molesters known by the family or victim are the most common abusers. The “Acquaintance Molester” accounts for 70-90% of reported cases.
90% is the high end. And in any case it doesn't change the fact you pulled a random number out of your ass and called others morons for it.

way to ignore my post. point out something wrong with it instead of saying stupid shit.

watch that penn and teller. they did the numbers on being abducted by a stranger, or getting hit by lightning. they came out about the same.

not sure why everyone is so up in arms, love doesn't have an age. NAMBLA articles make excellent points, this guy shouldn't have been in prison to begin with

You sure do pull a lot of statements out of your ass regarding this. Whether or not you are right is irrelevant. You sound like a jackass, you come off as a retard, and you are not doing anything to actually prove your point.

    Just letting you know.

Point taken, I could have been nicer about it, though I do think that I'm right is at least somewhat relevant, heh.

Just sick of people not realizing the only people worth worrying and keeping an eye on are friends and family.

I had a friend at the place I worked at before that was on the "list" from a statutory rape charge when he was 19 and she was 17. (should mention they're currently married, with kids even)

After watching what he had to go through constantly from people he would live by going nuts when they would find out he's on the list, well, it kind of became a pet issue of mine to read up on the actual statistics. I don't even know how he survived. The thought of having to explain that in a job interview, ugh. He was getting treated like shit in his neighborhood while the people actually abusing kids just go on about their lives.

And I'm not pulling this out of my ass. People who worry about strangers on the internet, or in real life don't understand the actual risks. Take for instance from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, 800,000 kids are reported missing every year, but only 115 kids a year are victims of what is viewed as classic stranger abductions.

That's a pretty damn small number.

Maybe I am coming off as a retard, but the numbers back me up. I just hate this stranger danger and internet predator bullshit so much, heh.

Just for fun, According to the NWS, the U.S. averages 300 injuries and 66 deaths per year from lightning strikes. There are an average of 115 abductions by strangers a year. I'd say Penn and Teller did alright saying you might as well worry about both equally. I was really just making a joke out of it before, to put some perspective on it. Didn't think it'd actually be that close.

And just for the record, I don't care what the context is, posting a legal (if it was cp or something, that'd be different) video on youtube or anywhere should not equal 5 years of prison time in a sane society.

I am glad the point got across to you. That really sucks about your friend and it is good that he has been strong enough to survive.

I quoted this part in particular because it seems to keep being brought up in this thread. He DID NOT go to jail for posting a youtube video, he DID NOT go to jail for having a computer, he went to jail because he VIOLATED his parole. There is a huge distinction here. The punishment for a parole violation is very clear and very well laid out when you agree to go on parole. He was on parole in lieu of going to jail, he agreed to follow the rules in order to stay out of jail, you break said rules you go to jail instead of being on parole.

most sexual assault is perpetrated by acquaintances/family onto acquaintances/family... so what? i agree, it's something people should know about, but how does that have anything to do with this thread at all? surely no one is foolish enough to infer from the above fact that NO sexual assault/child molestation occurs stranger to stranger... and further, child porn is a real problem. limiting internet use of child molesters seems pretty reasonable to me.

back when i was in college facilitating workshops on the topic of violence against women prevention, people would often say shit like "women rape too!" yeah, they do, and yeah, they should be punished. so what? i would often have to explain that we weren't selling magical rape remedies and that the stuff we were talking about focused on man->woman rape for valid, statistics-backed reasons, and why there was no reason to talk about woman->man/woman rape if we were presently talking about, say, gender roles. at the same time, if i found out someone had just been raped by a woman, i'm not going to be like, "NO THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN, MEN RAPE MORE SO YOUR RAPE DOESN'T MATTER!" there's a difference between "why we focus on X" and "Y must never be spoken of, ever."

point being: this topic is about a guy who committed "sexual battery" on a 14yr old, went to jail, violated parole, violated terms of probation, went back to jail. no controversy. maybe he knew the 14yr old. maybe he didn't. who cares? don't commit sexual battery, keep your computer. all good.
