Last I checked you get SJ at 18, Choco License at 20...whm raise is 25.
Are all of these noobs /anon as well or something? The likelihood of an entire group being complete noobs in this game is lower than a dring droprate.
Then if they are somehow a group of complete noobs I can tell that they're complete noobs because they aren't even past rank 1~2 at which point they can get special consideration for even being noobs. Your quote possibly quote assumes that the average player still thinks rank being under rank 5 with no SJ is normal as that's the only circumstances i can think of where one cant identify the random noob to be new to the game.

Raise fees are a little much. D2 fees are more like a stupid tax for not having your blm to 18 and being too lazy to death port, except for a few extenuating circumstances like being stuck in yhoator. Retrace and ports, people have always paid for those out of old custom and courtesy.

Honestly, I woudln't say raise fees are a little much. If someone asks you for a raise, it's pretty much guaranteed you're going quite a bit out of your way. I usually don't give raises unless it's for a friend or ls member or I just happen to run across some dead guy in my path, unless they offer to pay.

I've never in my 5 years charged for a warp, retrace, or teleport... its such a minuscule amount of gil (and time/effort if its a warp or retrace) that its insignificant. That's not to say I stand around in WG porting shouters for free, but if I'm not doing anything I'll generally toss a tele at no charge, even if they offer

No amount of gil is insignificant as long as you're using it right.

    Random scenario:

Paying bills at desk with FFXI open idling in WG doing a 2000g tele ever 10 minutes during time you would otherwise be inactive. Spend 1 hour every day of the week you take in an extra 84,000g per week which is an extra 4,368,000g per year.

Almost 4.5m per year doing 6 teles a day every day.

Is it a relic? Nope, but it is profit. Multiply that figure by 5-10x for students studying for a few hours a day while waiting for events to start, etc. As long as you're judicious about it you will profit.

That being said I don't even have WHM at 37 for teleports, I'm just saying it works.

I've been given so many free warps/teles/etc that if I'm ever asked to do so for someone I will never charge. I think it's ok to take gil from someone offering, but to demand gil for it is most definitely greedy. The only way I could see demanding gil a reasonable venture is if someone is a jerk about it or pestering you. Then that's just karma ;D

4.5m is insignificant? Ok then...go do Antlion and when you get a Hagun, go find a sam in WG and give it to them, then I'll believe you. Until then, you're talking out of your ass.

It's equally greedy to "demand" gil for things you list on the AH. How could you be so inconsiderate to make crafters pay you instead of donating the crystals to them? Same goes for every other item on the AH. It's not greedy to barter in a barter system. Your time has a value, items have a value, the simplest and fairest way for everyone to get their value out of everything is for nobody to complain about paying, or refuse payment.

Don't get me wrong, helping friends/etc is great, but greedy is a very poor term to use for someone who is trying to be fair. Because frankly, I bet all of the people here that say they charge for ports/etc are also faster to offer gil (or higher prices) than the people who aren't charging for ports and such.

Karma doesn't apply here, just had to pay 10k for a tele in WG because I didn't want to shout for an hour

Why is that not Karma? You giving your free ports made it less worth people's time to sit in WG and use it as a way to make profit, so now that you need a port, people no longer are trying to sell them, and you have to pay more/etc.

I realize this may be a small stretch, but I don't think it's as large of one as you'd imagine. If nobody gave free ports ever, I think you'd almost universally find ports faster.

To be more accurate, how about I give them 1/365 of it for a year. It's insignificant in the grand scope. You realize making 5 dollars a day your entire adult life would net you almost 110k in a lifetime? 110k, that's a lot of money, but lets see you live off of 5 dollars a day lol

You are 2/2 as far as stretches of the imagination go. And yes you are correct about finding ports faster, remember the telebot days? Everyone bitched... but I sure do miss them lol

But it's significant to make 3mil at once? I'm sorry, I'm not saying to go give every Hagun you get away. I'm saying go do it once. Suddenly you're now saying a smaller amount of gil is significant...because you made it all at once? Ok I guess? There is 0 logic behind what you are saying.

Also, as far as your $5 a day...nobody is saying to live off that, but any intelligent person with a concern for their future would be very smart for investing $5 a day for most of their adult life. You can't and won't deny this I'm sure.

Clearly fishing is awful income because it isn't in a big chunk. The gardening shit was awful too. I don't even know how to respond to this. "Slow and steady wins the race"? I'll just stop there, you're delusional if you think because a source of income is slow but reliable that it's bad. I think some people easily see at most 1 hagun a year from doing ENMs.
Fact of the matter is, there's a lot of ways to make gil, most people pursue more than 1 method, and it all adds up. Do you think it's coincidence that Sath made his own relic in 9 months or whatever? /shrug.

You're an idiot. Plain and simple. Acquisition of wealth is a process on a grand scale. The amount of people who get lucky and get a kraken from BCNM compared to the amount of people who make hundreds of millions 1000gil at a time isn't even remotely close.

If 4.5m isn't a lot to you then let me see your relics? How many do you have now? Have a morri robe? Full morrigans? Ancient Torque? Black Tathlum? Novio? Working on a mythic yet?

100 to 1 I'd bet my balls that you've done nothing even remotely significant in terms of money making in your entire FFXI career and like Failure has already said, you're talking out your ass.

i have never taken money for a D2 to anyone or a Retrace. i would never charge money for this.

The people in my ls find that very strange but i don't see the point charging money for this.
Especially with retrace, there are people that are willing to pay 3k for it.
As long as i am an active player i never charge money for that.
    i'd rather die!

this attitude is why you're stressing about people taking your dynamis-bastoks

I do freebies if I'm on the appropriate job and my MP won't be immediately relevant. IE: No actual cost to me, only opportunity cost. I also tend to overpay because a lot of the people telewhoring are on the poor end of the margin. This is inefficient, and I wouldn't say it's a good idea in general. I actually think I'm going to stop this after reading Sath's post.

If I'm not on the job or my mp will be immediately relevant and someone is pestering me(ls or not), I'm not going to do it. My time has value, 5 minutes spent is 1/12 of an hour. What can a 'good' player make in an hour on average? 300-400k? 300k * 1/12 = 25k.. terrible use of my time to change and teleport.
