Perfectly up to you I think. You can always reverse the greedy accusation. "Why won't you sell it cheaper?" Well why must you have it at a cheaper price? People who think that they're entitled to free servers or lower prices simply because they ask, can just as easily be called greedy.

I have people that ask me for favors. Knowing that in the time it takes me to help, I would have made gil. Sometimes I charge people for certain services (like selling Ermine's Tail), and sometimes I don't. You, as the service provider, have the right to choose.

"If you loved me, you would have sex with me." "If you loved me, you wouldn't pressure me." (totally the same as asking 1k for a warp, I know)

Okay maybe I should elaborate a bit more.

No amount of gil is insignificant as long as you're using it right.

    Random scenario:

Paying bills at desk with FFXI open idling in WG doing a 2000g tele ever 10 minutes during time you would otherwise be inactive. Spend 1 hour every day of the week you take in an extra 84,000g per week which is an extra 4,368,000g per year.
It is very insignificant when you consider the amount of gil you actually make in a year (if you aren't a tard). You can easily make 50k per hour farming ladybugs, it is just as effortless as tele's, and nets you 5x as much as your proposed situation. Sure, its only an extra 266k per week, but in a year thats ZOMGAH 18.2m

Says the guy with weskit and AF hat in his avatar.
Grasping at straws? That avatar is over 5 years old, I just like the color scheme of the weskit/af hat against the moon, works with the reflection of the water quite well. FYI I paid 7.5m for that weskit lol

If you can farm ladybugs at 50k an hour while actually playing for less than 1 minute per hour I'll eat my own balls (without getting banned).

You can make xxk an hour on teles without even missing a step from your non-FFXI activities. It's a 4.5m income during a time period when the average person would not be doing anything, or at the very least not paying attention to FFXI.

And not charging for an activity you're already doing is depriving you of potential income. Not a single person here has advocated using tele / retrace as sole source of income, just as potential income (income that can be gained through little to no effort while engaged in other activity) in fact...that's the exact situation described in the OP.

So..to reiterate, you're fucking retarded. Go away.

Ok, I never even used the word efficient, so don't put words in your own mouth I guess? You are stupid, sorry. When I said you should give away 3mil, you tried to make up some random argument about it not being significant if it was divided across 365 days, rather than addressing my point which was, you're not going to walk up and give away 3mil because you feel it is significant. You are flat out dumb if you think the significance of 3mil gil changes based on whether you make it 20k at a time, or 3mil at once, as long as the gil per day on average is the same.

We all agree there are more ways to make gil...but taking 4.5mil per year here, another 6-10mil because you limit prices you pay for currency, another 500k because you are efficient with your travel expenses, etc all adds up, really.

Sorry if i inferred efficiency as a (before you jump my shit, I said "A" not "THE" topic of the thread) topic of this thread....

Stop bringing your balls into this lol. To be effective at teletaxi'ing you need somewhat to pay attention, otherwise you will lose to your competition.

Look, the point I made originally was that 4.3m in a year in the grand scope is insignificant compared to the amount of gil you actually make in a year if you are even semi-productive. In order to be semi-productive @ teletaxing, you need to devote more than 1 hour a day to it, otherwise it is pretty pointless unless you only plan on spending gil once per year. There are far more productive ways of making gil that require little effort (like fishing :O) and can be done in your spare time. That was the only point I was trying to make,

We all agree 4.3m is not going to be the main portion of our income for the year, but we all realize, and it has been our main point that it is still significant and easily worthwhile. Sath's point, that you still haven't gotten is it's far easier to multi-task 1 teleport per 10mintes than it is to kill ladybugs at a rate of 1 per 40 seconds for an hour straight. To be honest, you can teleport far more often than once per 10 minutes if you want to use it as a way to make gil, but the point is you can sit in town, do other things, look at your screen now and then and make some gil.

I'm done with this discussion. As has been said, it's just as greedy to expect a free teleport as it is to expect gil for a teleport. Either way, you're expecting ~1-2k value from the other person.

You do realize that there are Telebot Programs right?

Back On topic tho, It was discussed in my shell a little as well about this and it was conculded that there really isn't a right or wrong way to do it but in my own personal opinion, if you're asking me to stop what I'm doing be it right next to me or head to fucking Kuftal Tunnel to raise or warp you when I don't even fucking know you then yes, I expect to get compensated.

Am I being greedy? Fuck no.

And honestly I make gil many other ways but there isn't a rule that says I should be all flowers and candy when someone asks me randomly for a warp & I sure as shit would make it a point to tip a person for helping me get to where I want to go faster then say having to walk my ass there.

God I love how you math everything up

As for me, I'll take gil if they're offering gil since I'm usually poor(er than everyone else I know and probably the people paying, too). Retraces and D2s are fine for free, but if I have to change jobs/go somewhere I wasn't planning on going or warp back to somewhere I didn't want to be then it's basically a money game. I don't do much teleporting anymore though.

I used to run a good racket doing a shout-service for teleports in WG, offering them for free (with the stipulation that donations are accepted). People are inclined to be charitable if you've teleported them several times in a day, and once your name gets known as the person who teles for free you actually make more gil than if you were charging... So the people who can afford to share some wealth do, and the people who can't pay get a free ride. Of course, it's very time intensive, and you might not make as much as you would doing something else, but it doesn't take a ton of concentration and you can stop/start whenever you want. It feels good to help people in such a timesink game and to be on the receiving end of recognition that you're helping people.

Also, it was cute to have a few people tell me they would come to me exclusively for teleports. XD

But for the most part I think the time of the teleports has passed, I rarely see anyone shouting anymore, and those who do shout hardly ever get a teleport right away. I usually have to wait 10+ minutes before I get an invite, but it might be different from server to server.

IMO you were within your right to ask for money.

You had to level the job, you had to go quest/buy the scroll. You have something that some one else wants... they should be willing to pay for that service.

As for the excuse 'I don't have enough money' is probably a lie to get out of paying. I know a lot of people aren't as super rich as some of the people on here ('cos I one of the poor people) but who genuinely doesn't have at least 5k on them?

And if you are that poor then you should be farming and travelling to the AH not going anywhere else.

Almost 4.5m per year doing 6 teles a day every day.

Is it a relic? Nope, but it is profit. Multiply that figure by 5-10x for students studying for a few hours a day while waiting for events to start, etc. As long as you're judicious about it you will profit.

That being said I don't even have WHM at 37 for teleports, I'm just saying it works.

He doesn't have 1k in gil? Like virtual money gil, not like cash green monies. And he's asking for a D2 in a starting city?

Jesus christ, who doesn't have 1k gil? Either he was bullshitting or a genuine nubz. If he was a genuine nub, where the fuck did he have to go that required a D2? When I was like... under level 45, I didn't even KNOW what a D2 was. After 45, I could make 1k gil by NPC'ing random shit. Regardless, starting city - Blood warp back you lazy asshole.

It's not being greedy, it's charging a stupid tax. Either this person is lazy, or inefficient at farming. Either way, you're teaching him to become unlazy or more efficient.

Why are people complaining about teleports like they are some time consuming drag? (Gather Together) (Mog House) + (Teleport*) and run into mog as spell goes off doesn't work anymore?

The game has changed a lot since I last played (~2006) and one thing I see now (despite some of the many, many improvements made) is that the whole concept of needing others has been drastically diminished. Most jobs are able to solo anything not endgame-and most have at least one job leveled that is able to do so. Don't get me wrong, I came back for a reason and am so glad I did, but the one thing I do notice is that people are generally a lot less patient with one another than they used to be.

I never charge for teleports, warps, or retrace, unless the person asking is rude, or expecting me to do so on his whim. Anyone who is civil, and asks politely will usually get said method of transport without issue or charge. I always offer to pay for my own warps etc, but I find more often than not, if I am polite in asking, I generally get the same teleports/warps for free. I've made a few friends out of these otherwise mundane requests- friends who ended up helping me out when I needed it - which even if you find 1 time out of 50 warps, is still worth more than the 1k you would get for treating everything like a business transaction.

I find specially greedy that you didn't warp him when he told you he had no money (regardless if was true or not).

Only I would understand it if it was really a bussiness for you, like you were standing near mog house to give a service like bots do.

This game is about cooperation, I don't really think a random warp, tele, cure or protect requires any effort.

Unless they actually offered reward in a shout or something like that I find greedy indeed asking for money. If they want to reward you they can always trade you before spell.
