I am a fan of the idea that they arent gonna have Sinestro be the villian for this movie, but rather set him up as Hal's trainer before going rogue and starting the Sinestro Corps.

Of course, most non-comic fans would see all the different lantern corps for the emotional spectrum and start spouting off Power Ranger references. Its too bad, really, they dont know the awesomeness that is Larfleeze.

Green Lantern won't have the same benefit of name recognition that Batman, Superman, X-Men, or Spider-Man do, so it won't have a built-in audience. But if they make a good movie people will come--I would equate Iron Man to Green Lantern in terms of pre-movie popularity. However, if they make a shitty movie (Punisher, Daredevil, The Shadow), I imagine it will flop worse than X3 or Batman & Robin because of the lack of built-in audience.

Tim Robbins cast in 'Green Lantern'

Tim Robbins is joining the cast of "Green Lantern," the Martin Campbell-directed tentpole at Warner Bros. that's based on the DC Comics superhero.

Robbins will play Senator Hammond, the disapproving father of the movie's villain, Dr. Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard), who becomes infused with psychic powers.

Ryan Reynolds stars as Green Lantern, with Blake Lively as the hero's love interest, Carol Ferris.

The movie is cruising to a March start in New Orleans. Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti are producing.

This is the second comic book movie for Robbins; in one of his earliest roles, he appeared in the 1986 George Lucas-produced adaptation of Marvel's "Howard the Duck."

The UTA-repped Robbins, who won an Oscar for his supporting performance in "Mystic River," last appeared onscreen in the 2008 sci-fi adaptation "City of Ember.

I was excited till I saw Ryan Reynolds.

I like him and all, he was decent in origins... but now he's just being over-used.

Are they planning to use him in every superhero/mutant/comicbook movie?

Isn't Green Lantern's weakness like, the color yellow or some stupid shit? Sounds kinda lame.

Earlier in the thread someone said the weakness was explained away in the comics. Don't know if Green Lantern has his own version of kryptonite. I'm not really big on comics in general. That being said I'm looking forward to this movie. I like Ryan Reynolds, but I would have rather seen him as The Flash to be honest.

I just found out about this movie and I'm fucking pumped but I have some concerns.

I'm really not sure if Ryan Reynolds is going to be able to play Hal Jordan well. At all.

I am really concerned about the story line. Hal Jordan is kinda meh, John Stewart would be fucking baller. I just imagine Phil Llamar playing him and somehow they work in his will actually surpassing the ring such a great story line.

Does anyone know of any movies that Ryan Reynolds was in that he was good? Other than a comedy. I'm going to watch The Nines soon to see if he can play a serious role because Green Lantern really needs to be an epoch not another Daredevil.

The reason why the rings are unable to affect yellow objects has changed significantly from writer to writer, in early stories, it was because of a design flaw, Gerard Jones revised this, in a story that revealed that the Guardians could change the weakness randomly and at will. More recent stories by the writer Geoff Johns have again revised this again, and stating that the "yellow impurity" was the result of the Parallax, yellow energy being made of pure fear imprisoned in the Central Power Battery. This change to the fictional history, also allowed certain characters to overcome the yellow weakness by recognizing the fear behind it and facing that fear. By far, the most significant limitation of the power ring is the willpower of the wielder.

When a Green lantern is chosen, its because that person has the ability to overcome fear. Which falls down to their willpower.

So far I've watched Adventureland, Wolverine Origins, and The Nines.

Each brought Ryan Reynolds to his role. Otherwise what I would think were meant to be serious roles Ryan brought his certain brand of quick wit and humor to the roles. I'm planning on watching Smoking Aces soon, but so far it looks like Ryan Reynolds is going to end up just being Ryan Reynolds.

The more I think about this movie the more I'm mad that they went with Ryan Ryanolds but more so that they went with a Hal Jordan storyline.

It would've been so infinitely better if they had chosen a John Stewart storyline, and then they could've potentially gotten Phil LaMarr to do the acting, which I believe we already know can look and sound the role, but you can also see him play widely different roles in a few places that I think can show us that he'd actually act the part well too.
