Lack of flash support is quite bad, but pricing is quite decent. I wouldn't directly compare it to netbooks out there...this is more of a Kindle&netbook mixture.

I am atleast interested. This would be good to take on trips instead of my laptop. Better battery life, same screen, and when I'm on trips I don't tend to multitask. But also I will need to test it in the apple store. (and find money)

also need to petition for flash suppose, otherwise jailbreaking the iPad!

well the ipad looks like a really cool toy that I do want to play with but idk if I'd really use it.

I mean, it basically is a laptop without games on it, with full digital media... if I wanted to do anything new on it i'd have to pay .99c-10$ per app... but at the same time, it looks so fun.

The biggest impact of this device would be on e-book, e-text, e-newspaper, and e-magazine sales. If it can get somewhat popular (and it probably will), with the support of iTunes and its popularity things may get quite interesting in a couple of years.

AFAIK, NYT will start charging for its content next year. They've been trying to get into the business with Times Reader, etc.

I don't see how you can look past E-Ink and the book purchasing advantage of say... Sony E-Reader (no restriction on book buying sources).

It has all the complexity of a game console. There are plenty of people who don't need, or in many cases want, to figure out a more complex device. It's an internet/media appliance, not a personal computer.

It doesn't fit what I'd want from a device in its category. I'm sure it doesn't fit what a lot of tech savvy people would want. However, the closed platform model makes sense if you stop considering it as a "Mac" (or whatever) and look at it as a console, as those are also simply closed, purpose built computers, just like the iPad is. It's a jumbo, (even more) expensive PSPgo, but with tons of non-game apps.

So, in a way, it's like making the case for playing the console version of a game over the PC version. Sure, the PC version may have mods, higher graphics settings, and so on...but what if your PC isn't working right, or you have a configuration problem, don't feel like installing/patching, or whatever else. For a lot of people, the simple turn on, insert disc experience is preferable...and that's more the route they're going.

It's a big letdown on its potential, it almost feels like they are making it underwhelming on purpose so that their second model can fix the stuff that people are bitching about and it will look like they really care what people say and they are making huge advances.

Also it's cheaper than I expected from Apple, lol.

And people are crazy if they think a new gadget from Apple won't sell, and they won't make another several Olympic sized pools to put their money in and swim around in.

^This x1000. There's just no comparison but people seem to be calling it one of the iPad's biggest selling points.
