Fucking this. My iPhone has more functionality than this. My laptop has more functionality than this.
The only thing the iPad could offer over my iPhone is a bigger screen (but I lose voice). The only thing the iPad can offer over my laptop is easier portability and a touch screen (but I lose multitask, flash support, and not being limited to only running things from the app store).
But hey, if people are convinced the iPad is worth their money, more power to you. I can find much better uses for my cash.
They never get old
Actually this would be really good for the ipad: http://www.bitolithic.com/ComicZeal/comiczeal.htm
This is just a bundle of things that other companies/products already do better and/or cheaper.
e-book reader: amazon
netbooks: anyone
tablets/drawing: wacom
portable gaming: nintendo/sony
There was some quote from Apple somewhere saying that the iPad wasn't meant for doing work "just for every other waking moment." This explains a lot... Which is, in a nutshell, them saying that it's simply for their hardcore, braindead, and loyal customer base that is by default in love with anything they release/announce and believes Apple is the first one inventing any of the ancient technology utilized in their devices.
I want to take the concept of this thing and create a version specifically for artists.
It needs in addition to touch screen the capability of a pressure sensitive pen (ala Wacom)
Built in SD and CF card readers
BIGGER HD
The capability of running Photoshop CS-whatever (not watered down ps real ps) (I guess along with this the ability to run a full on OS so you could install other programs like a photo viewer and such)
If it had all those things and still looked the same and was roughly the same size then I would buy one in a friggin heart beat. But this wasn't produced at all with artists in mind so poo poo to it. It is just a toy at the moment.
Edit: does anyone make anything like this? If they do I would really want one.
I would hella buy this also.
A Wacom Cintiq is.... sorta kinda what you are thinking of. Only problem is that it... its just a screen. You still have to plug it into a computer. There are tablet PCs but none with the actual pressure sensitivity of a Wacom. And considering the price point of a Cintiq I'd be afraid to ask what they'd want for one with computer hardware built into it....
I was originally looking at "Tablet PCs" back in the day when they still made them for these exact purposes... but they were overpriced and none were powerful enough to realistically deal with my file average sizes, especially after layers are involved.
Too bad you can't find anything portable with Wacom's technology in it (which is hands down the best) unless you simply attached a Cintiq to a nice laptop. Thus, my aswer is:
Just get a Wacom Cintiq. (21.3" being like 1800~2500 bucks) My next investment :[

edit: 'twas beated!
Few details on it yet, but if the specs are correct I will buy this:
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/MSI...egra,9536.html
Highlights: Full 1080p resolution, multitasking! (although multitasking shouldnt really be a highlight, but a standard...)
I have a widescreen large Wacom at home, it is very close to using a cintique so I wouldn't need one at home. I have used the Intuous and the Cintiques and really after using the Intuous for a while you forget you are not drawing directly on the screen and it is just as good as the cintique. Though eventually I will invest in a Cintique.
I really want a Cintique with a computer built into it thouhg that I could take to school or on jobs or to work.I would expect to pay top dollar for it and if it really worked it would be worth it 100%.
I would buy a laptop-powered Cintique in the blink of an eye, but only if it had substantially fast enough hardware inside.
I have had a 19" Intuos (way too stupid big for my desktop situations lately) for like 5-6 years and I know exactly what you mean about forgetting you're not looking at what you're drawing, which was what I was initially worried about when I purchased it... but man, the Cintique is just... It just felt like I was missing out when I finally got to fiddle with one in person. Industry standards are industry standards for a reason, I suppose.

Nintendo calling Apple gimmicky 10/10.Originally Posted by By YURI KAGEYAMA AP Business Writer"
Thats hilarious coming from them..
To be fair apple does pack more bullshit per product then nintendo does.
Eh, just different, pretty much the pot callin' the kettle black.
..and yeah, if the iPad was even half of a portable Cintique in terms of capability, I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up for $500. Even with the closed OS, if there was a good sketchbook type app + pressure/angle sensitive stylus on a portable IPS screen like that, I'd find a use for it.
Technically, though, a number of tablets do have "Wacom" technology in 'em - or at least, the Wacom logo claiming they do. Just probably not Intuos level. Screens are also usually smallish with crappy quality to boot.
I would rather get this http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/28/m...atently-ignor/ and actually be able to multi-task and have widgets on the home screen...
Made no news but just from my initial impression seems to be a much better.
I didnt bother reading the thread, but is there anyone seriously defending this product, and would want one?
If so, please explain to me why you feel it necessaryto waste $500+
You can imagine my frustration with my handful of mac zealot friends that think it's awesome and well worth the price tag.
Is it just me or is Apple being really douchy with the whole iBook "kindle-killer" shit? Is that necessary? Do they really need to butt in on that market and probably dazzle all the idiots who like looking cool in public with little gadgets for reading their books for which they could just be carrying a $1 copy of instead of a $500 piece of shit?
answer: Most of us are bashing it, but it seems a handfull of people are doing what apple fans do best; wanting anything they make.
The fact they made a laptop style device that has no flash is just out of hand. major flaws that if fixed might make it better.
1)Some for of multi task.. anything two programs just give em a bone..
2)Flash: how the fuck do you make a product that seems great for watching movies without flash?
3)Drop you weak ass phone OS you cheap SoB.
Apple needs a name like M$ maybe A$$le? to much like ass tho I guess/
