I was posting in regards to my own country, hence "I dont care what france is doing and what not".
Immigrants have no right to complain that they cant bring their immigrant standards over to a different country. Once again, sorry if I'm rude, or coming off as an asshole, but what the fuck? If you told me you dont want people walking in your house with shoes on, and I did it anyways "because its what I do at home", would you be pissed at me or even let me in your house? Probably not, so whats the difference?
Two things.
1. Using my/your house in regards to Immigration is retarded because you didn't decide on the Immigration policy and nowhere in said Immigration policy does it say you must check your religion at the door.
2. I was commenting on:
What does this even mean?act like you're in Canada, you're not in Islam
you can see how this is a bigoted stance right?
Clearly the solution for fighting against religions telling people how to dress is to make legal requirements on how to dress.
Requiring only women to completely cover themselves does nothing but turn them into non-persons, walking vaginas to be protected, hidden away, and used by men. The men don't have any strict religious garments they need to wear 100% of the time. You can be in favour of freedom of religion and be against specific parts of religions that you find offensive.
I get banning female genital mutilation, i sort of get banning polygamy if women can't do it too, the argument, however, for banning this garment however is far too abstract and reaching. Some people keep insisting that it's a symbol that oppreses women. Okay, so are high heel shoes, make up, and the traditional family, according to some women. No one, except maybe Iceland, is going to ban those three things. What's missing here is a consideration for intensity or proportionality. Female genital mutilation robs women of their sexuality in a very concrete sense and thus it requires concrete action. Wearing a burka? The argument for it is just not convincing.
But you live in Quebec
Where do you draw the line? Honor killing, the murder of females who are perceived to have shamed the family, is a pretty common Islamic practice in afghanistan and pakistan. Would you allow that to be practiced in a country that preaches freedom of religion. I don't think so. I am on France's side on this issue, solely because france enshrines personal freedom and independence in the constitution and veils worn by muslin women are anything but respect of human dignity. Some argue that it's tradition, so was barbaric chinese foot binding (google it). Being a part of tradition or custom doesn't make it any antiquated or sexist as it is.
You two are on the same side.
you know what else is sexist? not allowing birth control in a religion
Because 'shitting up a country' is subjective. What you might consider to be 'shitting up a country' is not to someone else.
Oh and the us vs them mentality you have is also a strong Indicator.
What makes this especially humorous is the fact that you're from a province in Canada whose people is notoriously considered to be 'shitting up' Canada with all your French only laws and continued attempts to secede from Canada.
ITT: Nynja thinks anyone not white must be an immigrant.
Wait wait wait... I'm the only person that caught the irony in someone saying "shitting up a country = practicing a different religion than you" facetiously on a forum where there are countless comments constantly coming about Christianity (fuck yeah alliteration) ruining America and how not being atheist is ruining the world?
