The guy is a troll, just let him be. His 'proof' was he bought one recently and that proves that LED TV's are better then plasmas.

Sounds legit to me.
I am saying the difference is marginal. I never said LED is better than Plasma. I only said the cheap average were terrible, which they were. Re-read, read right. The average man is not going to see much of a difference, if any. Personal experience says more than word pooping technicalities.
And blaming the fall of Plasmas on early prices is just terrible.
Yes, clearly everyone in the consumer market was sitting on $5k for a new TV and simply thumbed their nose at plasma because they all saw it was such an inferior tech.
Better motion reproduction, deeper black levels, in most cases better color accuracy and lower input delay. LCDs to even match the pixel switching time of plasma have to apply complex motion systems which alter the reproduction of the source. There really are only 2 reasons to get an LCD, if you are in a really bright room where the black levels and colors will be washed out or if you plan on doing something that will undoubtedly create burn in. If you're trying to compare off brand or poor quality plasmas to the best LCDs on the market then you might have a point. However at every price point above 700$ and at ever size above 40" there is a plasma that'll out preform any LCD in it's range.
I've recommended LCDs to people in the past. Mainly in situations listed above. Advances in motion control and LCD technologies have narrowed the gap, but it's still a wide gap. Even if LCDs were able to perfectly match the motion reproduction of a plasma you're still missing the black levels and contrast. Having deep black levels is imperative to adding depth to the picture. Color reproduction is also very critical but 95% of people who own nicer TV's don't bother to have them properly calibrated so even if their TV's had great color reproduction they aren't making use of it.
Stop trolling. And blaming the fall of Plasmas on early prices is just terrible.
yes, I'm the troll, the one who is asking the questions, and looking for information. Not the one posting gibberish and disagreeing with everyone with no facts or basis for said argument, I'm totally the troll here. I'm glad to be enlightened on the term.
"The average man is not going to see much of a difference, if any."
So why spend almost double the money on the technology...
Any who.
Thanks Kareface, you really did help reassure my trust in plasma, and armed me with a bit more knowledge on them. <3
No problem, happy to help when I can.
If you would have done some prior research on the internet, you would have known that nine out of ten websites will say that the Plasma is better in almost every aspect.
The slim design of a Samsung LED is enough of a reason to buy it at a despicable price.
So...I was looking at this 50" Plasma at Sears. It's a 720p but based on that seating thing, I'd need to be within 5 feet to get the full visual effect of 1080p. Most of the time I'd be at least 8-10 feet away from the screen, and I'm don't want Blu-Ray movies or anything of the sort. Mostly would be for FF13 in March, hooking up my computer to occasionally to watch movies, and just TV every now and then.
Between these two:

I owned a 50" for a while, I'd suggest at that size you consider picking up a 1080. There is a site selling the 1080 version of that TV for 1048 (looks like free shipping), for a little bit more you could get it. I'm not sure if you live in a state with sales tax, but if you do this might be a better option.

Can't seem myself spending 400 bucks more on something I won't notice too much. Just watching regular TV from 8' is no big deal to me; my vision is shitty enough that I won't be able to clearly see it anyways. Are they okay TV's though? I'm pretty sure you're partial to Pannys, but for the price difference of 50 bucks, they both seem the same. Maybe one company has better support?
