Isn't that the goal of all media outlets these days? They believe that only the shocking stories get noticed. It worked, eh?
I originally saw the story on HLN news and then did a Google news search for the story. This one had the bluntest title, which is why I used it here.
media + stupid parents + everyone winning stupid lawsuits = ruining everything.
I learned about oral sex in 5th grade.
Ya know, in the sex education class we had.
In 5th grade.
Is the parent worried about the 4th grader getting a head start?
What I don't get is, since they offer at least three different tiers of dictionaries, the elementary, intermediary, and college level, why the school would have opted to use the college level dictionary for advanced reading level students and not the intermediary. I highly doubt their advanced readers would need the college level dictionary. There sure is a lot of stupid involved in this story.
This story reminds me of my seventh grade year at a private Christian school.
I'd said something about a condom in a side-conversation in class, and the next day I was pulled into the vice principle's office. His daughter (who was in my class) had overheard, and asked him what a condom was that night. He apparently felt that it was inappropriate that his daughter would know what a condom was at her age.
The funny part was that she was pregnant before the end of high school (10th or 11th grade if I recall correctly).
