Nasa should be working on getting us all personal flying cars like on the Jetsons, then we can go to the moon.
Priorities, Nasa. Priorities.

So space exploration is delayed until we sort shit out on our own planet?
Sounds great. We should be able to give anyone we send out in space a home to come back to.
GDI this is why we don't have nice things.
This news makes me sad. Almost too sad to post saying how sad it makes me.
And all across the country, nerds in glasses hold their telescopes and have a moment of silence for the loss of the one thing they know more about than anyone else around them.
God dammit Obama quit blasting NASA in the ass.
Because waiting until its an immediate necessary thing is the way to go right? We have trillions in deficit due to shit decisions, not due to NASA. Not to mention we're NEVER going to fix shit on our planet, its been knee deep in shit since...umm..forever. One way to help it out is to understand what's going on in the universe.
I've always thought of the space program as being like the 4th or 5th rung on a very tall ladder, where the top rung means we will ultimately see humanity not having to keep all its eggs in one basket. This is like going down a few rungs because you're afraid of heights.
It's not like he's dismantling the NASA program, its delaying a trip to the moon. Something that, quite frankly, is something that should be sacrificed in a time of financial stress. Just like a vacation when the breadwinner of a family loses his (or her) job. I don't think healthcare fits the analogy quite as well.
you people need to stop making analogies
So what happens to the people working on the project? Do they get laid off due to this? I mean there would be no job for them to do.
Need to slash funds where we can and right now I don't see how sending people on a luxury trip to the moon is beneficial. You're saying our we are never going to fix shit on our planet so we should just stop caring about it? We get this deficit under control and are no longer dependent on foreign investors, then I'll support space exploration. But until then, I couldn't care less about NASA and sending rich people to the moon.
It was my understanding, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but the majority of people working for NASA and the whole space exploration industry already didn't see a point in sending people into space and that it was all started as a pissing contest during the cold war to show how l33t america is.
Unmanned spacecraft and telescopes, both terrestrial and ones in orbit, have contributed 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% more to our understanding of the universe and the discovery of other possible earth-like planets.
Perfecting terraforming, suspended animation for travel, and etc. are all currently being heavily researched here on earth without any need to send people to the moon. In fact, it will eventually BE perfected long before we have any need to actually physically test it.
Sending people into space is outrageously more expensive than sending unmanned probes or developing new, stronger telescopes, and etc. for far less information gained.
tl;dr? We shouldn't be sending people into space. It's an astronomical waste of NASA's already exceptionally tight budget that could be used to break more advancements in space exploration than we could ever get by sending some douche named buzz to the moon.
