Sers, next time one of you is in an LS full of mouthbreathers who take the internet a bit too seriously, come to the obvious conclusion that they need a good trolling and try it out. Obviously only really appropriate when the victims aren't particularly friendly with you or otherwise wouldn't give a fuck about you, and hence have no business pretending to be emotionally distressed about your stupid ass getting killed. Keep up the charade for as long as it takes for their fake sympathy to reach a masturbatory climax (bonus points if they throw an online funeral for you), then pop in, have a delicious laugh at their stupidity, and point out the obscenity in using some random stranger's death as an opportunity to strike a mournful pose and look compassionate.

The difference is that the dring getting ninja'd was 100% preventable given the circumstances, so it only took less than 2 pages to have enough people tell them how stupid it was and get locked.

This, however, is...uh...well, it needed more than 2 pages to find out what the hell was even going on. It's sad and funny, and there's a lot more to the story than person A was supposed to get X item but person B ninja'd it and people C are butthurt while BG tells them how stupid they are.

Could be because, in general, people do not want shady characters running around in their linkshells. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Thesummoner had friends on Hades, some with whom they were probably close with since they've been playing since at least 2004 (when I started). Now I don't know most people, but if I find out someone with whom I had a moderately close relationship dies, I'm going to be upset. There are undoubtedly some people who mourned this person, and right now, they're probably feeling beyond betrayed. I'm sure some of these people trusted him.

I'm certainly not saying that players of FFXI are all saints as we've clearly come to realize over time, but if someone does some shit like this, they could, I don't know, do it again? Maybe after "borrowing" some high ticket items? Really screw someone over.

And for what? Attention? There are other ways to do it. If they really want the attention that death provides, they could really just do us all a favor and just off themselves.


Anyone who can't man up and just say that they want to change servers to people who are supposedly their friends (and thus, should understand) is a fucking pussy.

Hopefully in conclusion to this investigation:

Bent 20-21 y.o. English guy named John Something roleplays women while on Mithra toon, leaving a carefree trail of emotional suspense. Exciting addition to any LS!!! Still quite malleable, but history speaks against dependability.

This game gave me a lot of experience with the JP population... that crappy English he types on some LS apps belongs to an English native with sub-par education or attention to detail, not a foreigner of any sort. You type slowly in a foreign language; thus you type carefully.

While you may be correct that people who do not speak English as a first language would type slowly and with caution to prevent errors, I'm not sure never asked an ESL person if they do this, I can tell you now that doesn't fix their mistakes. Their mistakes, no matter how careful they are, stem from fundamental differences between the languages. A person with a lot of experience should be able to make an educated guess on the writer's primary language based on the errors they make when writing in English. But hey, I'd take whatever I have to say with a grain of salt since well, I'm not studying language. And obviously, as a person uses a language most then some of those grammar errors should go away and then be replaced by careless errors. But I wouldn't really say those errors are so careless to begin with since a person could proofread their own work a thousand times and still miss the same error. All of us do it!

I'm still asking why?

Why would they fake their death?

Why should I care?

Why, if they did nothing wrong besides telling their fake friends that they had died, should they be blackballed?

If a person was assuming a different identity on a server and they wanted to let it go for whatever reasons, I don't see what is the problem. Okay, so they lied. But as far as the people who even cared if this person really died to begin with, the person really is dead. Especially if that person was planning to have this character vanish to start either being themselves or playing a new role.

In that perspective, they're doing somebody a favor, and you just hurt somebody's feelings even more.

So somebody likes to roleplay, besides maybe a little bit of deception about who they are (Everybody has a 14" dick on the internet), what did they really do wrong that warrants a player warning? I mean, am I missing something? Did they steal shit? Sounds like a bunch of people are blowing this out of proportion. I mean, why do you care so much about somebody you never met, probably will never meet, and has in no way outside of you both having some interest in a video game anything to do with you?

And that pretty much leads into, why should I care? I mean sure, I care about all of this other stuff because I find how people get scared and act because of peer pressure when they initially didn't care kinda interesting. But, what did they do wrong that I should be concerned, warned about, besides tell some people they no longer wanted to associate with that she bit the dust? That doesn't necessarily make them a shady character. Maybe they just didn't know of any other way to exit. If somebody who didn't have anything better to do than try to uncover the truth of this great mystery, none of us would give a damn anyway.

Oh certainly; most genuine mistakes come from language assumptions, but that's why I mentioned my experience. For example, JP do not over-capitalize because their IME (keyboard method) uses shift more like a 3-way caps lock to change alphabets. They also don't mangle "English" like that - it's not one of the typical phonetic mistakes. In any case, foreign writers make consistent goofs, not a mishmash of types, not a sudden missing subject (a decidedly colloquial shortcut) in a sea of perfect subject-verb alignment.

Firstly, if we're to go by track record, this person doesn't appear to have done any intentional harm - like absconding with an LS bank.

Secondly, real hard for him to pull a similar feat again with the high-powered scope he's now under. Some of us here are borderline detectives! Everyone there knows what he's up to.

Thirdly, I find the majority of FFXI players to be less saintly. Consider yourself lucky if you're not afflicted with some oddball disorder that affects how you deal with people!
