I'm not saying because sun supports it, it should be used, but there's really not a reason not to use it. I'm not saying what Sun says should go but it boggles my brain why we would use an editor that practically has not been updated since 1999 over something that is up to date and is relevant. I don't think writing shit in Notepad is going to get me a job over using something that spots mistakes as they are made. People make mistakes in code all the time and typically seeing those mistakes and understanding why they are mistakes is what makes people better programmers.

Yeah were using netbeans ATM it's a good IDE but it honeslty does no justification when you have zero background knowledge. Thx for the help guys I'm on my phone now so I'll check it out when I get home.

To prove how bullshit this class is. It's called INTRO to operation oriented program with java. Key word intro and the guy made us leave our original class which had computers in it and got us transferred to a box with a fucking chalk board so we get no help or hands on in the class. Just definitions so it's awful so far and of course he's the only teacher.

    Anyhow thx again

Heh, at least you don't have to do your first couple projects on pico. Our first lab the computers were down so I had to set up a SSH on my laptop to connect to the unix system on campus. Using pico is pretty easy though, although I'd rather use something like NetBeans. I'm hoping Eclipse, which we'll eventually have to use, is just as good.

To be fair, this is about as easy as programming gets.

co-signing this. if you're some sorta computer major, change your major now. it only gets harder. if you had any sorta curiosity or motivation, you could have googled up examples like other dude said.

I mean, I could use notepad to do Java but I'd rather use something that lends a hand here and there.
Might as well just run eclipse then, since the makers of RSA are the makers of Eclipse. Pretty much everyone uses RSA + notepad.

Programming isnt the only thing needed for a degree, I think I only had to learn how to use VB/.NET, dos/batch, and maybe some other basic coding stuff.. The circuitry aspect of a computer degree gave me hell, though that was a long time ago, now it seems like a cake walk.

As long as he isnt majoring in the programming aspect of a degree, he'll never use this again aside from basic editing. In the business field I find myself doing tons of batch stuff, some html/php, and some real basic vba (for excel/access) and sql/oracle database langauges.

    I <3 batch.

Depends entirely on what degree he's getting, which I don't think he mentioned. What I'm taking right now, for example, is exactly the opposite - it's entirely programming (well, and Math+Physics, but only so far as it's useful for programming). It also depends on what he actually wants to do with the degree professionally.

Is this is CE/CS degree, or what?
