Zaeed's only use: escorting the Normandy survivors to the Normandy. Was initially gonna have Grunt do it but then figured hed be more useful later on. Also, after the giant Terminator when Shephard dives to catch the squad member I thought he wouldn't save Grunt cause krogans are fat pieces of shit.

There are alot of random events they mix in depending on who you pick to do what and just in general they threw in a lot of random shit to keep the suicide mission fresh lol. Like apparently the squad member who you pick to lead the other group while you escort the biotic has a chance to die even if loyal. I picked Miranda to do that and she actually got shot in the gut right as the door was closed and there was a moment when I thought she was gonna die and then shes like HAHA J/K (probably a /random decision by the game with loyalty and shit factoring in to decide)
edit: shephard diving to catch the person who falls off the platform is in the last trailer released but it was so more epic in game when you catch the person and the platform starts collapsing in the other direction (probably another random event where shep could die after winning)
