Time for a new Headset ~100$

So my http://www.steelseries.com/us/produc...sb/information right speaker is starting to lose sound, definitely quieter than the left and sometimes I don't hear anything at all. Guess it's time for something new.

I don't like spending too much on headsets, but the more you spend the longer they last. I learned this through my current headset, so spending another 100ish would be worth it. I know a few people using a Sennheiser 550? with a Zalman mic, so thats one of the main options I'm looking at.

Any other suggestions would be great. My current headset has a separate mic, just like the sennheiser+zalman. I clip the mic onto the cable anyway, so I don't know if I want to go with another detatched mic like that again. I prefer USB headsets, I forget if I wired my mobo correctly to use the mic/phone jacks ;p lol. I'm pretty sure they work, but my Siberia came with that USB soundcard thing, which probably hasn't gone bad and I could keep using.

edit: looking around on ebay, some guy is selling the siberia V2 for 55$ buy it now... but I want to look at other brands first.

If you are even remotely serious about sound quality, go with something around Sennheiser HD 555 or Sennheiser HD238 Precision at least.

555 can be purchased for less than 100$ and I strongly recommend it. They are simply incredible for their price.

Ive bought and sold a plethora of headsets... I can only agree with Maya. For the price, Sennheiser headsets are wonderful. Roomate introduced me to the series of headsets.

I don't play music or game sounds through my headsets anymore, it's strictly for vent really.

Even with FPS i've started to stray away from using headphones for sound. I really just want something clear that will last for vent.

for vent? don't spent $100 on a headset for vent. $30-50, go find a comfortable one. Comfort > Quality for vent. I had 2 headsets for my pc when i played XI. One for vent, one for everything else.

I've gone through so mean 30-50$ headsets that I went with my siberia for 80$ and it was the best buy I've ever made.

So I don't mind spending around that price again.

Plus, my siberia was never great for music/fps games anyway... if I get a good enough headset I might start using it for games again. Comfort > Quality since I typically wear the headset for 5-10hours and comfort usually means an expensive headset.

This is what I was using: http://www.steelseries.com/us/produc...sb/information

I was looking at these 3 other models from them, since I don't want to spend too much and sennheisers are probably going to run me at least 150, I might stick with Steelseries.

Anyone have any experience with either of these? I was using V1 Siberia.

I have the Steelseries Siberia they are comfy and great sound but I got mine with a Steelseries Ikari gaming mouse on Boxing day in Canada. $50 for both was a sweet deal.

Edit: Had to Run in the middle of the post.

These are great for Vent i wear mine probably 4-5 hours a day and the venting on them is awsome you can hear everything around you if no one is talking on vent nice if you are watching TV or something while playing. They almost float on your head none of the earpiece even touches your ears they cover the whole thing super comfy for long use.

    Razer Carcharias $80
i use it ONLY for vent i had a cheap $40 Logitech pos before and omg this thing is the most comfortable headset i have ever worn for an extended period of time.
Only problem i had was that it is 2 separate 3.5mm jacks for headphone and mic,
but i solved that with a USB sound card.

My sister has a carcharius and it's been making a buzzing sound lately when she speaks... so I'm kinda withdrawn on getting another.

The steelseries 5H is starting to look pretty good.

edit: as for the 10$ ones posted above, i've gone through over 10 headsets ranging from 10$-50$, it's cost me more buying cheap headsets then buying a 80$ pair over time.

Logitech Wireless USB Headset, has mic attached to it so you can vent with it as well. It's ~$70 on amazon.

I've got the wired version of this and it's lasted me several years now. For vent I don't think a $100 headset is necessary at all, if you're trashing cheaper ones it might be more about how you are treating them?

Nah i take good care of them. My last PC did what I call "ate the headsets". After a while they would just stop working sometimes with that pc alone, sometimes all together.

Not sure why my speaker went on this current headset, but I have had it for a long time. As I said I used to use headsets for gaming but I haven't had a good enough headset to do that with in a while, which is why I'm looking at other options.

I've gone through the most logitech's out of anything, products today are built to break so that you buy new ones sooner and their headsets are a prime example of it. LOVE their keyboards/mice, but not for sound.

I've been looking for another set of headphones. I'm no audiophile, so I'm not sure what I'm missing out on, but I hear a lot about those headphones. Just purchased a set from that link you posted. I've been using these Creative Aurvana DJ headphones for gaming, hopefully the difference is as good as you say it is.

I seconded Sennheiser. Owned a pair myself few years back. GF at the time liked them so I said she could have it. Biggest. Mistake. Ever.

Friend has been beating me to death about buying these. 95$ on amazon is hard to beat for headphones that I already know are fantastic.

Finally I'll get to run game sound through my headphones again.

It's just about the most god-awful looking headset on the planet, but a friend recommended this one to me and it's by far the most comfortable headset I've ever worn (Always had an issue with headsets and glasses being painful after time). And the sound is very good also.

My old Sennheiser HD 280 Pros started falling apart after 5+ years of hard use and abuse, and so I was looking for a headset for gaming.

Wound up grabbing Sennheiser's PC-350 gaming headset, and it's alright. Had to globally pre-amp the bass slightly in Windows (first time I've ever had to do that) and now they sound quite good. Out of the box they're very bright and have no bottom end.

Not USB, not cheap, not worth it just for Vent, but worth it for a primary gaming headset imo. Mic sounds excellent, sound quality is good (once you deal with the wimpy low end), construction and comfort are excellent.
