They're not as common, not anymore at least, but I've had so many WoW vs. FFXI debates on WoW forums in the past it's not even funny. You can guess how each of them ended up.

Anyway, what was the point you were trying to make? FFXI players use that argument more because there's less debates on the subject in WoW sites. And? Does this make FFXI players worse than WoW players? What are you trying to say?

And a healthy on-topic discussion turned into a WoW vs FFXI debate when someone came and mentioned "don't let this fall into a WoW vs FFXI debate!". So how about people shut the fuck up about WoW vs FFXI and let the thread continue on topic?

I think I'd call it the next stage in the job/subjob system, and I'm really looking forward to the increased flexibility and customization. How many times have you thought that you had a rocking job/sj combo, but that if you just had ability x from a third job you would pwn everything in the zone? I think we'll be very close to that in FFXIV, but without the limitations that j/sj has.

As for music: I think the Chateau Orajel music really captured the idea of the San d'Orian royal family as an overblown bunch of posers, so it's kind of favorite. Also, the original BCNM music and the Zilart BCNM music, even after hearing it 29 times in my mini-avatar fights.

Because FFXIV has no class in the first place, you can't just expect anyone to be able to do everything right away.
Oh, that's fine; leveling up 'sub jobs' is fine as long as it feels less like grind. 11 was a HUGE chore leveling subs (and in general). The leveling system in 14 is looking to be much better.

If you have to grind subbable skills, whatever. As long as I don't have to compete for camps, can do it by myself at a good pace, I will be pleased.

Again, this could also be easily a non-issue if different classes are less bothersome to level, which ultimately nets you the same thing (since you can also switch jobs when you aren't fighting anywhere).

I am not saying that there are gonna have a sub class in this game at all but i am sure that Tanka and Sundi said that the job/sub job system is what they are EXPAMDING on as in term of the idea itself. What i ment was that maybe you do get to take traits from other classes you have leveled to a certain degree, but your main class will be used in conjunction with the abilities made avalible due to the previously leveled skills. I think as i stated before that this game will be geard more to low man situations but .... from the endgame aspect of FFXI and carrying some of the events that i saw in that game i think that you will see large group events where you will be geared to be more of a specialized role in that instance/NM/fight.

That's the problem, not the fact that people make comparisons between the two. Nobody needs to fucking point out the elephant in the room. Take from FFXIV and talk about it. Mention WoW if it's relevant to what you'd like to see in FFXIV, but stop this "ZOMG YOU CAN'T TALK ABOUT FFXI VS. WOW!" nonsense, as it only degenerates the discussion.

On topic, I want to know about clothes and wind. Are we finally to the point where we can do more to showcase wind than simply blowing a static leaf around on-screen and making a wooshing sound in the background? Can I get a freakin set of robes and a doublet that you know... billows a bit? How about hair? Can we at least get hair?

SE? Hook a fellow up with some fluff? Fluff is a good thing in a game.

People should just stop replying to one another or a mod should delete these recent posts because it's been a healthy discussion of both the games and for once both MMO faithfuls were holding hands and agreeing until some angry fanboy nerd couldn't fathom the thought of the two coexisting in one thread and had to shit it up.

This is what I would enjoy; Difficulty & End Game Progression from WoW(non WotLK). Visuals, Music, and the leveling system of FFXI. I think those combined into one would make a great MMO. As for crafting, I guess both would be fine, I did sort of find a sick pleasure in the HQ animations from FFXI but that system was pretty annoying, and as for WoWs crafting.. it's too simple. I DO enjoy the gathering professions and what they did with those, so maybe they'll do something like that.

I've been reading ZAM forums, and saw some posts where people wanted in game gardening/other crafts to be like farmville to some extent, and I facepalmed. Then I logged into facebook cuz it reminded me to check my plants.

Just a random thought when I saw you mention crafting

The last thing this world needs is another farmville. Fuck that.

I rather liked ffxi crafting, although I always thought how much nicer it would have been to be able to automate the synths a bit when you were skilling up.

I enjoyed the stupidly painful length it took to skill fishing up, even. It was kind of relaxing, at times, once they turned it into the little mini-game with the fishing music. And the random rod quests were nice things you could go out of your way for, if you took pleasure in that sort of stuff for some reason.

I even liked growing plants in my mog house. I think most people didn't like how days and stuff impacted crafting, but I thought it was a nice touch. It made the system more memorable to me, despite inconveniencing me some at times (the inconvenience wasn't really /that/ bad, it just felt /that/ bad when there was something you wanted to do immediately).

But there's room for a whole bunch of improvements with crafting.

I'll be ok with the FFXI crafting system if they take out failure rates for recipes you've "mastered". I shouldn't fail to make holy water as a 100+3 alchemist.

I can understand failure rates for leveling and rough end-game items (though that's also shitty) but I shouldn't fail easy stuff.

Basically I don't believe you should be punished by the RNG. Nor should you obtain everything in the world based on RNG. Fuck the RNG, it hates me.

I'm hoping more like a craft system like Runescape's myself. Need X level to make whatever, then get Y EXP in that crafting category.

i'd like real numbers for skill ups and not .01 bullshit, but that's just a minor thing that wouldn't in any way really affect the gameplay for me

I think i developed post-traumatic stress disorder after trying to craft my cursed -1/heca +1. That was just ridiculous. After crafting that set I can totally see why people were facing different directions and thinking even the most minute things played a part in successful HQing.
