Why are you looking forward to FF14?

Talking about what you want to see in FFXIV, including things from WoW is fine. It's inevitable it will come up in a topic for "What you want to see in FF14", especially when you have played WoW and have seen things in a 6 year old MMO that you'd like to see in a new one.

People who sit around and cry about WoW vs FFXI are the ones derailing the thread, and will be dealt with. Keep it civil guys.

on the alpha videos i saw at the bottom what looks like an action bar...

Do u think they will put an action bar or is this like FFXI

I wouldn't be shocked if there was one, most games lately have them, I guess.

The ctrl/shift macros were basically just having two invisible action bars. I wouldn't really be opposed to SE giving you more key options instead of ctrl and shift (although after using ctrl/shift + number for so long, it'd be a hard habit to break).

I do hope that if they added action bars, there'd be an option for making it invisible though. I don't mind being able to key bind everything, but I think it's nice to have a clear screen to.

I would approve of the idea of invisible action bars. I'm not sure if I'd use them or not, would depend on what indicators there are for cooldowns, but I'd like the option.

The main use in action bars is for a large number of abilities to be around and really that's what I hope FFXIV has. It doesn't have to be WoW-huge, as a number of WoW abilities just don't get used much, but I hope FFXIV has more abilities than FFXI, on shorter cooldowns.

One thing I liked about FFXI was the "ctrl+j", "ctrl+m", and "ctrl+w" menu. The magic one should have been customizable (not fun to go through 200spells), but I liked how quickly you could access these.
In WoW, if something isn't on my bar, it takes forever to go get it, and because of this, everything has to be on my bar.


If they bring back invisiblle macro bar, I hope we will have ctrl, shift, and number alone, instead of just ctrl/shift. And add the +/- while we are at it. 12x3 macro would be more than enough probably.

I guess we just had ctrl/shift because of the L/R on the controller...freaking gamepad, mmo are meant to be played with keyboard.

I didn't like the idea of having to change equipment for everything, especially when half my macros were just for changing equipment even using windower...

I believe they mentioned something like three action bars, and that the alpha didn't have all of the things that will eventually be included before launch (that second part I am not sure if I am remembering it correctly and I can't find it in any interviews when I searched).

There is an action bar for regular attacks and then a TP bar for special attacks. Regular attacks give you TP but special attacks only take a certain amount of TP not the full bar.

I think you will be disappointed if you think that FFXIV is going to just be WoW Jr. SE isn't really a company that follows in the footsteps of others. For the most part I would expect FFXIV to be a new iteration of FFXI, not WoW.

It has nothing to do with wanting FFXI to be WoW Jr. No one wants to have to fucking press 5 macros (without using Windower) just to change gear for WS/TP/Enfeeble etc.

There have been tons of comments in this thread about other games besides WoW, hell I'm sure I've mentioned Aion and LoTRO in this thread without problem, yet when people mention WoW, people get their panties in a knot. It's popular because it does a lot of things right. Wanting to see things in FFXIV that worked well in other games is not a problem.

When people start bitching and turning it into a WoW vs FFXI thread or what not, that's when the hammer is going to start coming down for derailing. Stop it.

No, no I wasn't. I was the guy telling that guy to fuck off. I ignored your response to my post earlier to try and keep the thread on topic. I make a ton of WoW comparisons in my posts, I make them almost every single post even because like Silverbreeze says, WoW does a lot of things right. I have no issue with WoW comparisons, I was telling the guy bitching about "WoW vs FFXI" to stfu because mentioning "WoW vs FFXI" is the only reason a "WoW vs FFXI" topic comes up.

I don't really want FFXIV to be a WoW Jr. But I sure as hell hope SE takes a note from Blizzard, that RNG and grinding isn't fun, so don't base the majority of the game on those things. While I'm not confident in SE's ability to create an MMO better than WoW, I am confident in SE's ability to innovate. If there's a gaming company that is going to be able to break away from the EQ/WoW/Aion/etc. model of play it's most likely going to be SE. I just really hope that stupid bullshit like failing low level synths, hour long fights that can drop zero loot and a minute between doing anything but watching your character auto attack are not seen as things core to FFXI's "success" and kept for FFXIV.

Dude, you need to reread my comments. I freaking play WoW. I only stated what I think that SE is going to do, and responding that I think Eaglestrike is going to be disappointed because he commented about several things that SE said they were not going to do or hoping that SE was going to follow from WoW.

I am looking forward to FFXIV for three reasons:

1. New content: I quit FFXI because I got bored. I'm excited about the change they made to Taru's. I'm excited about a new class system learn. I'm excited about a new world to dissect into graphs and formulas. I'm really excited for a new bit of lore to obsess over.

2. Time Sink: I am currently not playing any MMO and have few hobbies outside of school work and random internet sites.

3: High Resolution, Computer exploding, Graphicsgasm: I love gaming eyecandy. I waited and saved extra money, just so I could buy a gaming computer rather than a normal one. The graphics for FFXIV look beyond brilliant.

There seem to be a correlation between the ability to jump, and how high it rank in everyone's favorite list. Count me in.
