How To Chronicles - Fight Scene

I'm not sure how many of you have seen any of these videos considering we slowed to an almost complete halt two years ago.

For those who don't know: The How To Chronicles was a FFXI comedy series that spawned following a number of comedic 'How To' videos. We got to episode 4 before things took a turn for the worse and delayed episode 5 by a year. And now another year later I'm finally getting around to uploading the fight scene that would have started episode 6.

    Here's the video.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpRI0PeFXgc
I finished it a few months back, but after a pc change and the final version getting lost, along with the raw footage being made unusable it left me with only the Beta version. And this demotivated me horribly.

For anyone not aware what the hell I'm talking about, you can find the other videos at the following link.
    http://www.youtube.com/gunshaproductions

And for those who do know what this all is; as the profile portion of the youtube page says, we've stopped doing the videos for good now. It was great fun but there's far too many things standing in the way of completing them, but a very big thanks to everyone who enjoyed them!

    Thanks everyone~
I'd really love to finish it... but it's too far past the point of being able to do any more to it, I'm afraid =/
I get nostalgic when I see the first ones, but I know it's not something I can continue.

Though I may make a parody compilation of eps1-5 at some point. Bleach one from ep3 being my personal favourite (Ep3 in total was my favourite).

As for the music, you are quite right. The first track heard is called Akatsuki and the second is Lightning Speed. Both were used at the start of Shippuden and used with Sasori.

What was that song during the fight between the RNG Aketon guy and the NIN Relic guy?

Edit: Nvm, looked it up. Great video btw.

Oh man, this is both amazingly awesome, super frustrating (what a tease!), and really sad at the same time! I still have the other How Tos on my PC, and (trufax) I re-watched the Aht Urghan one like four days ago (clink clink?).

I don't know why I feel bothered that this pretty much reminds me of the opening stage from Megaman X when Vile pretty much kicks the shit out of X and Zero comes to save the day.

Anyway, if it were me trying to improve it I'd make better use of music. By that I mean, I wouldn't play music in every scene, not even most of the scenes. Having it there the whole time really takes away from the moments where music would really contribute. Even with the lack of voice acting I believe the selective use of music would still be an overall improvement.

Like at the point where the badguy can feel the presence of the GM. That would be a very good time for silence save for the FX, and then the BGM can start when the GM camera finally sets on the GM.

This is what I'm talking about from Megaman X lol, starts at around 2:50

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ulv4pFkEbM

But here's a really good comparison I think of how music and silence can make or break a dramatic moment. Take this for example, one of the most powerful moments in anime. The music and lack of music at certain parts is what really makes it powerful. I remember when I first saw this, I was like 9 or 10. I cried because it was very beautiful.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWrbl2q1Wm4

Now take this same moment, and see how it can become less effective and almost meaningless because the power of silence was not used at all.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU2H1I4ItY4

The latter version simply lacks anything meaningful to me.

I guess it's something you might want to consider on works you do later. But other then that, still pretty cool. I don't have the patience to work with models like that.

Get over yourself, I think it's fairly obvious that the NA version of DBZ had way better music than the JP version.

    .
That had to be one of my favorite moments in the show. The lyrics to the song make the emotion even more palpable, for me at least.

Back on topic, that was very nicely done.

As usual BG doesn't give the recognition something deserves.

I love the how to chronicles, I really wish I could see more of it! Its hilarious and a great way to show how FFXI can be used in so many different ways for fun.

Awesome work, I've waited a long time to see some of the fight. :D I can only imagine how much time and effort goes into it.

I really enjoyed these back in the day. I tried to re-get the files (I had my own PC problems..still have some), for I lost almost all the ones I had downloaded from the Gunsha blogspot page. However, it looks like they're gone. Do you have these posted anywhere else for download? Thank you.

P.S. Needs more Mort. And Apollz.

Mort gave away his account a loooooong time ago. Shame really because the real Mort wasn't far off from the Mort we showed in the series. He wasn't stupid, but he did screw around alot in silly ways.
(And I am Apollz, just got very bored of a name and that annoying Z~)

As for the downloads, I'm pretty sure these links still work:
    http://apol.gunsha.com/HTC/

jammalamma, I've not played Megaman X since I was a kid, but the resemblance is uncanny XD
That was one of my favourite games when I was young so I guess it was burnt into my mind~

And with regard to what you said about music/lack of music, I completely agree with you. The Alpha version of the scene didn't have music after the fight and until Averna stepped in, but after reviewing it a number of times and from comments from the rest of the team, we felt that it become very 'uninteresting' (for lack of a more fitting word) when silent considering there's no sound effects at that point.
Had we used more sound effects or voice acting then it would have stayed silent.

And thanks to everyone else for the kind words, I'm glad you all enjoyed it. This thing damn near killed me to make. There were many times when two seconds of footage would take a few hours to perfect.
It's the reason I was so demotivated after losing the final version. I spent a lot of time over two weeks making minor changes and smoothing things out.

If anyone was interested in seeing how the story continues, I can upload the scripts. We had scripts 1-11 written out, with 12 being the final episode that was mostly written, but in an alpha stage.

I double post because I'm special.

Flik went ahead and posted all of the scripts for the How To Chronicles, along with a few extra ideas he had (fanfest video and How To: WotG) on his forum. Link below.

You don't have to sign up if you don't want to, but at least pop there and have a read. There's some very funny scripts that I wish we could have gotten around to making into videos.
