3D (with glasses) on LCD TV

So, annoyingly enough, I've run into a few things requiring 3D glasses on TV. Such as Coraline (using magenta/green glasses), Chuck season 2 episode 12, or the grammies tonight (using red/blue glasses), and so forth.

I'm using the correct colored glasses for the show, but on my LCD TV it just doesn't look right. Is there any special way to set up a widescreen LCD HDTV for this? I realize the 3D with colored glasses will be kinda crappy regardless, but the way it's set up now, it simply doesn't look like it's 3D at all. Without the glasses, of course, it's got the blurry overlapped tinted images so I know it's displaying what should be 3D, but it's just.. not.

I'm not really a fan of using colored glasses to watch TV, but it bothers me that it doesn't work even if I do care to.

At CES the official bluray standard for 3D was announced. It will no longer be using the glasses that you described and will be more better looking in general, but will require a TV the supports the technology. Just wait a couple years for the standard to be propagated a little through out the industry and you'll have plenty of good looking 3D content for home theaters.

That'll be nice for the future, I suppose, but I'm more curious about how to get it to work today. Apparently it's supposed to be able to work on a regular TV or else they wouldn't do things like broadcast an episode of Chuck in 3D or sell DVDs of Coraline with a 3D version on side B, or broadcast part of the grammies in 3D.

I'm just wondering if there's any settings that need to be changed on an HDTV to make it look like it's supposed to.

Not that I know of, but I'm not well read in the matter. I've researched it a bit and decided to avoid it till the standard was finalized.

Guess I'll just have to experiment, then. Not sure if it's because the image is 16:9 instead of 4:3, or the color/tint needs adjusting, or what.

You'll need to tinker with the color of your TV if you're seeing a shadow of both images while wearing the glasses. I'm assuming your colours may be a bit bright for what the glasses were intended for.

Do yourself a favor and ignore the 3D side of Coraline. As to the other, idk.

Well, there is the non-3D Coraline, and I found the non-3D version of Chuck S02E12, but it's one of those things that'd be nice to know how to do as it was intended anyways since I keep running into it here and there. Even if the experience isn't all that great.

Wait until you can get a TV that polarizes each of the viewpoints IMO. Not worth it at the moment.
