    BG Medical, save me! (Well, not really me..)

    Ok, so somehow my girlfriend got mono. She became symptomatic about a week and a half ago, went thru the whole rough fever/headache stage and now is in the loooong period of being tired.

    I know most of the facts about mono, including the fact that the immediate contagious stage can last up to 18 months after symptoms begin. Although that seems kind of a moot point since mono stays with a person for the rest of their life and will randomly become active and contagious. (while not showing outward signs in the carrier) I've never had mono, at least in my young adult/adult life where it would have shown, and I'm not too eager to get it.

    My question to you, BG... is this: Has anyone of you, or your significant others (past or present) had mono during the time you were dating? And if so, how long did you wait before kissing them again?

    And inb4 "Whoa bro, who's your girl been kissing?" etc, etc. Even though the peanut gallery is gonna show up anyways.

    Well, if it helps... the virus has an incubation period of up to 7 weeks. EBV can also stay dormant and be contagious for upwards of 2 years.

    Once you're exposed there isn't really much else you can do other than just let it ride its course.

    Unless you want to break up with her you might want to just suck it up and risk infection.

    Lots of rest
    If her head is stuffed up or her nose/ears are congested here's a old remedy i use

    Ingredients

    * 1 Can of Coke
    * 1/2 a Lemon
    * 1 inch of Ginger

    Method 1 - Traditional

    1. Slice your lemon and your ginger into thin slivers.
    2. Pour your coke into a saucepan, add your ginger and lemon.
    3. Simmer your coke mixture over medium heat for about ten minutes.
    4. Pour the hot coke into a mug, you can strain off the lemon and ginger if you want, but I like to leave them in the mug.
    5. Curl up under duvet and sip your drink.

    Shit works wonders.

    Yea she was pretty miserable this whole past week, fever went up and down like a yo-yo. But she's back at school now and feeling a lot better it seems, so it would appear now that it's simply a battle against the fatigue. She's a premed major...so that's gonna be one hell of a battle.

    With Valentine's Day and our anniversary coming up soonish, the whole problem of kissing,etc will kind of take care of itself.

    Had it when I was in middle school.. you'll probably catch it if you haven't already, and you probably already have it but aren't showing symptoms yet. It's not that bad to deal with if your immune system is healthy; just rest and let it pass.

    Keep physical activity to a minimum. When I had it in juniour high, I was told I could not participate in gym class because of an enlarged organ (I think spleen maybe). I was giving an impression that if something happened to it, it'd be very VERY bad... like fatal bad.
