I remember when SE's servers were getting dDOSed by some angry asians. During that time my friend DCed and somehow lost the last 3 hours worth of xp that we'd gotten while dodging the Yhoator zone-line goblin trains. We called a GM and they didn't restore it, so at least that hasn't changed.

I remember the Alexander drama thread on KI, and the hissy fit the server had when they deleted it, not to mention the resulting move to alexanderdrama.org. God I miss that thread.
I remember when JPs held the monopoly on Alexander until Welt and his crew got their first bot.
I remember running to sandy from the dunes every 2 levels on my first job to buy spells.
I remember buying the 4th AH'd Roundel Earring on Alexander for 1.3m, it now goes for 4m+ and hasn't seen a price that low since it first hit the AH.
I remember my first trip to Xarcabard with my original social shell. 18 of us went, only 4 or so had ever been there before that.
I remember hitting 75 on my first job on Thanksgiving night.
I remember KRT burning on WHM/NIN
I remember the first Fafnir I ever claimed. It was my first time ever using App.
I remember accidently spike flailing my LS with Carby as WHM/SMN, and recovering/killing in under 40 minutes
I remember when people used to SMN ONLY burn down Tiamat on Alexander
I remember when Tiamat was up for almost 8 hours and changed hands between 5-6 shells. That, to this day, is my favorite Tiamat
I remember the first time i accidentally wandered into a Promyvion and being totally amazed at how it looked
I remember getting to sky for the first time and being amazed by it
I remember competing over Mother Globe
I remember when RMT ruled sky, and it was infinitely faster to just buy drops off them than to join a real sky shell.
I remember when hyperinflation started, and not being able to cash in on it
I remember making my first 2m off a pair of bounding boots I got from a BCNM

Getting away with subbing Blm to my Thf was acceptable in the beginning.
Getting my Bard to Lv.75 in only a few months.
When playing Bard you sang and backup cured and you weren't required to pull.
Getting my first job to 75 and thinking no more Lv.75's. Now I have 7 of them.
The old way of xping compare to now a days.
Getting a merit was an accomplishment in itself (After you capped xp after hitting 75).
My very first friend in FF Hajime. I miss ya bud.
Seeing everyone I've met along the way leave. And everyone I know now. You are all awesome.
That I still have fun playing the game after 7 years.

I loved the challenge to outclaim people.

Now people use bots, and I quit the HNM game.

I remember Yhoator on my 28WAR/10MNK with a polearm.

I remember Toramas, and that NM that drops AJ, whatever his name is, at level 58 as a melee. 50% hit rate, 3k an hour. I remember Steelshells and Processionaires. I remember deco meripos in shrine when getting past chain 6 was starting to become possible for pts not made up of MNKs or RNGs.

I remember when I mined Palborough for a month straight to get 700k to buy a pair of sniper's rings. Having snipers made you fucking awesome.

I remember freeze MBs. Shit, I remember MBs period.

I remember when we used to say yokodama and fuidama, and when yokodama was nerfed.

I remember reading the gamefaqs FFXI forum and it's daily loldrg threads. Actually I remember when penny arcade had an FFXI forum, and I remember reading on it that PLD should use great sword because shield was useless (which was technically true at the time) and that great sword would let you grab more hate.

I could go on like this for awhile really.

Bloodpacts weren't seperated into Rage/Ward, couldn't MB or SC and Ward type Bloodpact duration wasn't affected by Summoning Magic skill. Also over-capped Summoning Magic didn't affect Bloodpact ACC or MACC.

Summoning Magic skill did absolutely nothing other than spell interruption rate. People said you should have capped summoning magic to have the best chance to recast Carbuncle during the mini-trials if he died and that was it!

I got my Myochin Kabuto and thought it was sooo cool.

I did a Soboro Sukehiro run with a pick up group, and I was the only one out of 4 people to get it. I was also the last run of the night too.

Mobbing Palborough Mines and killing all the Quadavs with my sister's SMN and BLM friend with Ramuh's Thunderspark and -ga I spells for back plates.

Killing stuff with my fists outside of North Gustaberg as WAR, then realizing I had a sword in my inventory, equipped it and thought "Wow, I'm killing so much faster now!"

Fast Blade was so cool.

I'm actually pretty excited about FFXIV, just to experience a whole new game again. That feeling has always stuck out to me as genuinely fun and exciting. Beta isn't coming out fast enoughhhh!
