Anyone been on a cruise before?

Being an avid cruiser I have to say I love the food on Carnival. I've cruised with them 8 times now and Norweigien once. Whatever you do the latter is just horrid. The food is disgusting, the service is poor, and there is NOTHING to do. At least on Carnival you have your days planned and plenty to do. The interior rooms are very small but you'll rarely be in there. I go with my boyfriend and we share our own room etc. I was typically out doing stuff until midnight or later - and I'm not even 21 so I can't drink. <_<

I've been on a cruise and wasn't too impressed. Food wasn't worth it, drinks were too expensive (until they had a taste testers type thing), the best part was being wheeled out of Senor Frogs in a wheelchair lol (one of the stops). I say just spend 3-4 days in Punta Cana at Tortuga Bay at the Punta Cana Resort ( www.puntacana.com/ ) . Me and my fiancee are planning our honeymoon there or in some place outside of Paris.

Sorry to ninja your thread; but anyone have any recommendations for a honeymoon. I don't want to spend over 4k. Since the wedding is costing about 10-15k.

Another hotel to consider in DR is the Punta Cana Princess.

It's an all-inclusive adults only hotel. It is on a strip right on the beach of 4-5 hotels, and you are a welcomed guest at all of them. They have a little trolly car that will bring you to whatever hotel you want to go to, and there is a casino at the very end that they will bring you to as well.


They take the "Adults Only" very seriously too. There was a bunch of little bastards that tried to get off at our hotel (from the trolly), and the security guard wouldn't even let them off the trolly at our hotel lol.


I went 2 years ago. Flew out of JFk non-stop, and paid $850 for everything. All-Inclusive Hotel, Round Trip Airfare, all Tips/Taxes, and Transportation to and from the airport.

We priced out the same thing this year, and the price is about the same oddly enough. We still haven't decided to go there for sure or not though.



The night club on the strip kind of sucked. But my fiance and our group of friends aren't really club people. We were drunk from 10am till we went to bed every day, and it was glorious. I have pictures of the place if you want me to post em. You can always just look at the pictures on their website, but those can be misleading some times.

The girls I went with have a bunch more pictures. I going to see if I can get any shots of the actual rooms. We just went for the basic room, nothing spectacular. They were all very clean and nicely decorated.

First time entering the room was a towel they rolled and folded to look like a swan, and they had rose petals all over the place. When we first got off the bus to check in, a waitress came around and gave us drinks out of a coconut.

They have a little entertainment crew that runs all the events at the hotel as well. We actually got to know them pretty well. We still talk to one of the guys on Facebook occasionally.

Little things like that (Room Decor, Drinks as soon as I check in, etc.) is what I pay attention too.

For our hotel strip, the beaches were all private. Never very crowded, and always pristine (both the actual beach, and the water).

They actually have little cabana beds on the beach and around the pool that are really cool.

We did snorkeling, I did scuba diving, we do a booze cruise, and speed boats. The girls did swimming with the dolphins also, which they said they really enjoyed.

If you are an avid scuba diver, you probably won't be all that excited about the scuba. It's nothing like, say..... diving the reefs in the pacific. All the carribean islands are like this though in my experience.

If you are new to scuba, you will definitely have a ball.

They also have all different events and things at the hotel at night time that were all pretty fun.

Keep in mind:

Our hotel was adults only as I mentioned before. If you take the trolly to the next hotel over (about a 1/4 mile), the beaches were a little more crowded.... and a lot less relaxed (fucking kids).

You really don't appreciate a "childless" vacation until you are actually on a resort that doesn't allow them. It's like a fucking Utopia. Everyone is smiling, and everything is nice and relaxed.


We had a little incident at the hotel also with another guest, on the night or 2 before we left. Basically they (couple from Spain), accused us of stealing their camera. In my limited spanish it sounded like a very expensive underwater digital camera.

They pretty much called security and then were following us around for the entire day. All the while we had no fucking clue what these people were doing lol. I finally went to the front desk to complain, and they offered to upgrade our room to their top of the line suite for the remainder of our stay.

We didn't feel like moving our shit a day or 2 before we left so we said "Thanks but no thanks". They gave us all complementary massages for our remaining time instead. All this and the problem wasn't even with the hotel, just a couple assholes that were staying there.

Didn't read many post after the OP but if you are doing it solely to enjoy the cruise and not the destination, then I'd get the suite. The inner and balcony rooms are rather bland, cramped, and high traffic hallways outside. The suites are more secluded and peaceful and spacious.

Archi was right in mentioning that all you do on cruises is eat eat eat. Food and sex will be the highlight of every day. They have some nice enteraining shows as well, but with 24 hour food options, you'll find yourself getting a head start on the post marriage blow up. They have a nice fitness center on the ship, but come on. Like a handful of women use it.

In closing, get the suite! And book a non-refundable personal trainer afterwards so you will have motivation not to ditch working out after the cruise.
