Playing FFXI and other games through VPN

Well I just changed my credit card to another company and it doesn't support 3-D (but get much better rate on it so I couldn't justify not changing just because of ffxi).

I live in Europe but I imported an NA account back when the game came out. I went onto the support centre so I could update my CC info through verifying account but they refused to do it because I wasn't actually in america (but the said they would update international CC info) unless I was in the military. So after 20 mins of fucking around I set up a VPN that would make it seem like I was in america, setup chat again and it all worked fine.

I tried playing ffxi while the VPN was connected and it wouldn't connect but it made me think that I could play ffxi at work if I could get the VPN setup correctly. Is this possible? If so I wouldn't mind lag or anything that it generates because it would mainly be for bazaaring and mindless farming as I wouldn't be able to do anything involved at work.

although I dont know the answer to your question about playing through a VPN, but if you were able to connect to POL and change your CC info, you should be good to go. There isnt much need to stay on the VPN once that's changed, I dont think they care/check if you play from EU while on an NA client.

edit: hmm realized that you meant to use the VPN to play at work as your main goal, yeah idk really :3

I never logged on PoL to change my info, I did it via playonline.com > support. When you start up the chat session it tells them what region you are in via your IP which you can trick using a VPN or proxy.

Could you link me a url that lets you set up a free hub, or will any do it?

Also do I need to change any settings, using the free option from http://www.packetix.net/en/ and it works ok for browsing websites and the chat page on PoL's support website but whenever I try and play ffxi it does not move past the checking version screen on PoL.
