I'm of the theory (hope) that most of the things still wrong with XI are just because it'd either be a major coding change or such a radical change in gameplay it'd be a bit silly to do that to the fanbase now.

That said, I'm also a fan of a long thorough beta. There really isn't a downside to one. And you can get a lot out of it.

Ive wondered if they have been working on XIV for a longer time than what they told us. They are a very productive company, and theyre japanese.. hard working. So im not sure why they would have slacked off so hard, other than because of a new game theyre dedicating more time to. Iunno, i dont think the game really went bad until 6 months or so after CoP came out. They got back on the ball a few months after ToA came out, with some added events and minor adjustments... but then WoTG just ended it all.

So i am hoping FFXIV will be a boatload of awesome content for the first 2 or 3 years.

If it's as casual of a game SE says by being able to get shit done solo then I don't intend to put up with any of that jp onry shit on the server I end up on. Jp onry shit is over with, done, nada and permanent ignores will go out to anyone who tries to pull that shit in 14.

I am hoping for some unity this time around, I don't care if we can't understand each other as long as you do your job and I do mine while we both focus on our task at hand.

This time round, everybody is starting together.

With FFXI the Japanese had something like a two-year start, and the average age of a JP player was about 27, the average NA player was 17 when FFXI started here. You throw a bunch of 17-year-olds into a party of 27-year-olds, and I don't care what the nationalities are, there's going to be trouble.

I'm hoping we don't get that sort of tension. I love pting with Japanese, no fuss, no drama, 20k xp and done, see you next time.

Agreed. I made a ton of JP friends through FFXI some of the most fun I had in the game was slowly building a reputation and respect from them in ballista and xp over the years.

I'm looking forward to a fresh start for fairness reasons, mostly. It was rough having JP botting and exploiting to max crafts and strangling the crafting and AH markets at the beginning of NA release. Some games bypass this problem by introducing new servers for each region, so only those that choose to cross over run into these problems, but starting everyone at the beginning at the same time is a much better idea, given that I love the multi-lingual approach.

I still expect to see a bit of the JP-onry in the beginning, especially as people try to find their sea legs in this new game, but I'm hoping it won't extend into mass xenophobia and situations where the only guilds/shells that have a multicultural mix are those elite, high-end botting HNM shells.

well, I don't want it to be that casual type of gameplay that everything is done solo and you can completely ignore everyone else. As much as I hated lfg in XI, it was a lot of fun when I did find a group of competent players. I thought the whole group aspect of the game was what really separated it from everything else I had played before.

I'm really hoping for things like... groups of two or three, even four can do on their own.
it's still partying; just with less lfg. lol

I secretly fear being able to solo everything, because I don't want FFXIV to become antisocial.

I think the key is going to be to have balance and variety. I don't want to go into this game and waste tons of time just waiting for a group with nothing to do. In FFXI often times I found myself doing other things around the house while I was waiting for a party invite. It will be nice if you can solo while you wait, even if for meager xp or skill compared to what you get partying because then at least I feel like I am playing the game when I want to play the game.

I used to play Blitzball on my PS2 right behind my PC back in the highlight of the loldrg era. I'd spin around in my lounge chair every 10 minutes or so and check for invites while LFG. I remember one time where I famously took off my Linkpearl and sat in my mog house while LFG one weekend and eventually passed out. I woke up in the morning, and upon checking my log found that I missed only one JP invite during the 9-hour AFK session. I had to laugh a bit at that.

Here's hoping for more initial job balance in the new game. I wouldn't wish those kinds of (noncommitted - its not like I shouted or anything, but in most games, you don't have to) LFG times on anyone, much less an entire class.
