My wife would be very sympathetic to you Ksandra she had rats and loved them. I had a rat when I was in elementary school that would go everywhere with me even to school. I used to carry her around in a Crown Royal bag you know the purple velvet one. She died from a tumor though.

Semi good news!

So the appointment for the vet was today, and even though last night was full of sadness for both boytoy and I (we were so sure they were in pain and would have to be put to sleep), turns out they do not have arthritis.

They have something called Spinal Nerve Root Degeneration.

I guess they aren't sure why it happens in rats, but when they got older they often start loosing a lot of their vitamin B12. Which I guess causes them to lose a lot of functionality. This would also account for them both getting it around the same time, since they both eat the same rat food.

What makes this good is that this doesn't put them in any pain, they're just "weak". So they don't have to be put down. I basically just have to keep doing what I'm doing with the feeding, and give them a B12 supplement everyday.

The sad part is they may not recover from it (the vet said some do some don't), but that the supplement should help them from getting any worse.

Ty to those that gave kind words. It's always always hard to lose a pet. I'm just glad I don't have to lose these ones yet. ^^;

Only animal I hate are snakes. Justifiable though because they would eat my babies, AND IT"S A FUCKING SNAKE HOLY CHRIST IF IT COULD IT WOULD EAT YOU ALIVE.




Also, I need to find the highest calorie count of either wet dog or wet cat food. They refuse still to eat their rat food (even when softened and mixed in with tasty stuff), so vet suggested the above. Problem is rats have a higher metabolism than dogs/cats, and he wants me to try and fatten them up a little.

Dunno how to figure this out though. [edit] well I know how to figure it out, just gotta take a lot of looking around.

So...tomorrow the rats will be put to sleep. One got better but I found a tumor on her inside leg, the other is extremely bad and can barely eat her food, and can't really move at all.

This sucks so so so much ;_;
