They're getting to his death now on the show. The hardest part is watching his sons as their old man die
Gotta love how they continue to make TV despite the fact that the guy died. I love reality shows! Always exploiting real life for the ratings!
This just strokes me the wrong way.
It's kinda surreal hearing that he died, and now watching the last few months of his life unfold on the show.
I'm happy they are keeping it running. A lot of viewers really liked him, so its a nice tribute to him and his family, and probably consoling to all the fans at home. The show is handling it pretty maturely, there's a pretty somber tone and they're def trying to show some respect (about as much as you can I think if you decide to air it.)
I'm sure if the family really didn't want it aired they would've obliged.
Was my favorite capt. easy ; ; poor phil. I too am glad show is still running and they are airing the stroke etc...
I thought for a second this was Phil from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and was super sad.
Still feel bad but not as much, childhood memories and all.
On the show you actually see him keel over?
Everything but... also his death isn't instant so. =(
good lord, i have been sucking on my media knowledge lately. i need to watch more TV. for like, half the page, i was too lazy to click on links and thought it was phil margera from jackass
Edit: Nvm.
Do you guys think they fucked with the timing of everything to make the show a bit more dramatic?
Just seems a little odd that:
-Phil finds out his son is an addict.
-Phil cuts season short so he can go with his son to rehab meetings.
-Phil has a stroke while his boat is offloading the crab.
All this is happening while the kid on the Northwestern is dealing with a sudden disappearance of his father as well.
I was reading about Jake's addiction in a Discovery channel article even before he had the stroke and this thread was made, so I think its more of a coincidence than anything. For instance, him breaking out the photos of Josh and Jake of when they were kids just a few hours before he had that stroke was eerie and cant script things like. I mean unless you're on some Pac/Makavelli type shit lol.
I love the Time Bandit with Andy and Johnathan QQ Phil was my dude too, hes always been one of those guys you cant hate since he comes off as a genuine fatherly type figure. The big picture is the fact that the family opted to air the footage, because as Josh put it "The people that tune in to watch our silly job and watching us at our worst are just as much family to us as the people on this boat are. Id rather you see it in the show instead of mucked around on the internet and sold for DVD profit, dad would have wanted it that way".
Not verbatim but something I can understand and respect.
With a name like "deadliest catch" you'd imagine there's some sort of provision for injury and even death. So i'd venture to say Phil was ok with it, even after his stroke he was conscious for a good amount of time and seemed ok with the cameras.
You can really get a feel for what kind of man Phil was based on the reaction of the people around him. The Samoan guy(Freddy right?) is hard as fucking nails, we've all seen dude bite the head off living fish and sucks out their guts, he was on the verge of tears when talking Joshua. Even asshole Keith from the maverick started to cry at the news.
You always wonder if it's creative editing to give the captains a personality but Phil was genuinely loved by just about darn near everyone.
Hey man, Keith is a stud. Niggas hatin'.
I hate the fat guy with the glasses and the mullet, he drives the shit boat that pulls up shit pots and shit. They only show his boat like every 3 months which is about the time it takes him to get 50 crab per pot. He's like the Ohaigaiz of Deadliest catch.
Edit: This guy. His name is Bill "Wild Bill" Wichrowski and he captains the Kodiak and boy does he suck something fierce.
Spoiler: show
oh ehh, wild bill wachowski or w\e. he got pretty gangsta last night with the guy that wouldnt wake up. he just smashed his head into the wall and said wake up, nukkka
I laughed my ass off at that.
Don't lie mother fucker, you thought to yourself "Oh fuckkkkkk...." When he got off the boat and walked down to the bar to retrieve his crew. I'm surprised they didn't play the Darth Vader music in the background as he was marching down the road to get them lol.
