Is 9-10 hours a day too much sleep? I only ask because that's about what I average.

It definitely affects the skin for most people, pulling all nighters tend to cause break outs and blemishes on the face. Need your 8 hours.

doesn't the body use sleep to repair neuro-pathways in the brain ? not sure of the exacts but i would think that it's doing more harm than good.

and i would agree with cephius in that staying up all night studying is worst than getting a nice nights sleep with regards to retention rates.

This makes sense if you are spending all night looking back over shit you already know, but usually the point is that you haven't studied enough yet, so you have to stay up all night to learn it.

Do you fall asleep easily in a well-lit room?
I can if I needed to, I prefer having the lights off but I can fall asleep with all my lights on with no problem at all.

This happens to me when I'm on my two week rotation of nights during work
    Days: 7AM-3PM
    Afternoons: 3PM-11PM
    Nights: 11PM-7AM

First two I handle fine, just requires waking up earlier/going to sleep later so I don't feel completely unproductive, but when I'm on nights, unless I'm lucky and manage to get to sleep right away upon getting home/showering factory filth away, I have to nap for a few hours throughout the day or I'm exhausted, only get used to it... on the wednesday or thursday of the second week, so not very effective

As for original question, you'll just end up being exhausted and wanting to sleep later, and for very long times, my ex-girlfriend stays up nearly every night when she has evaluation periods at school (graphic design), and when I was staying with her during the last one I basically needed to drag her out of the room to get her to class on time, or she ended up sleeping till 6:30~ (and then of course having another all-nighter to make up for lost time)

nah just get a good nights sleep, cram it all in half an hour before the test and then forget it all after the test is over.

ideally people are supposed to be asleep at around 1030pm because that's when all the things you've learned during the day will be permanently stored in the brain, as well as the liver and other organs regenerate. when you sleep late or pull an all nighter specially, you body wont be able to recover for that sleep for a while, even if you sleep for a long time the next day. if you don't sleep rgurlaly and correctly for the next, say about 1 week for each all nighter you pull, you wont be at you full potential, your memory wont be the best, and your body will get older in the long term. think about it this way, people who smoke a lot are doing something unnatural to their bodies and they look older than they actually are because the body's wasting its energy trying to make up for that. sleeeping works the same way. sooner or later it shows
