It's incredible. I doubt you could find anything, even on youtube, that does it justice. she literally plays two pianos at once, sitting between them and playing one with each hand. it's amazing. and scary. and makes me feel VERY untalented. but I'm a whore for Ms. Amos, so take that as you will.
and of course I like Aching To Pupate. not as good as On The Radio (this it how it works. you're young until you're not. you love until you don't. you try until you can't. you laugh until you cry. you cry until you laugh. and everyone must breath, until your dying breath, etc. - best lyrics EVAR?) but still great. as is everything she does.
though nothing, IMO, beats "US" and "Better." oh god do I love those two. especially Better. one of my fav songs ever.
I went to a Weird Al concert when I was like 12, it was amazing. I would kill to see The Mars Volta live.![]()
Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Nine Inch Nails, The Tea Party, and Sigur Rós put on legendary shows.
really?
though, to be fair, I have heard that Weird Al is beyond amazing. apparently he does like twelve outfit changes during the concert, to match his different songs.
I have respect for Mr. Al, yes I do.
-In Flames at the Warfield was pretty incredible.
-Bodom/TBDM at the same spot were also sick.
-Nightwish/Sonata Arctica
-Lovefest '07
oh god if I'm seriously turning you onto Tori Amos via this thread, I will cry. I jest, but seriously, she is my favorite musician in the world. bar none. and objectively even, I would say she is among the most talented fuckers around. she honestly pulls off shit that NOBODY ELSE pulls off. no joke.
my point being, I'm glad you're checking her out. if you EVER need ideas of songs to download, please let me know. I can easily point out her best, without even trying. she's kind of second nature to me that way. literally. I HAVE A TATOO OF HER NAME ON MY ARM FOR GOD's SAKE.
p.s.
Silent All These Years
Cornflake Girl
Caught A Lite Sneeze
Spark
just saying. those are the singles that I like the most. although I like her non-release material even better. but you can't go wrong with those.
I saw The Mars Volta right when they were promoting Deloused (2003, 2004?). Saw em at the Quest in Minneapolis, probably the best concert.
Also saw Mates of State in Phoenix at the Rhythm Room which was nice and small/intimate.
GWAR at the Marquee in Tempe was probably the most memorable..... but probably for the wrong reasons....
her biggest single ever = A Sorta Fairytale. sorta pretty, kinda lame but worth a try
I couldn't even begin to list her best songs, but if you want to ease into her (she's sort of a fucked-up/weird musician but she has done some stuff that's less obtuse/difficult) try out:
- Silent All These Years
- Cornflake Girl
- God
- Spark
- iiieee
- Taxi Ride
- Teenage Hustling
- Dragon (a personal favorite)
- Spark (amazing and a favorite among many people, though not mine personally, VERY listenable)
- Jackie's Strength
- oh god I could list so many more
excuse me while I go have a Torigasm. yeah, I'm sort of obsessed.
NIN NYE 1994 - Palace of AH. Absolutely epic show.
The Cure - Swing tour - Palace of AH. July 13 1996
Radiohead - Bercy Paris - June 10 2008.
Grateful Dead August 1 1994 - Hardly anything compares to the carnival atmosphere of the dead.
Pink Floyd - Soldier Field - Chicago - 1994
Anthony Rother - Fuse Brussels - 2003 They made a DVD of this performance and every time I watch it I get chills.
Mighty Mighty Bosstones w/ Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphies in Chicago in 1999ish (can't find info on the net but it was either at the Metro or at the Riv, all the shows are kind of blending together as I saw MMBT around 20 times, but with FM and Dropkicks was by far the best, even though we got into a huge fight)...
I don't get the Volta hype. I've caught them four times over the last 5 or so years and can honestly say I've never been "blown away" by one of their shows.
Best recent shows were Justice and Mutemath at Voodoo.
Best shows ever were the Chilipeppers for the Stadium Arcadium release, Deadmau5, Wyclef, and all of the times I've got to see Girl Talk.
