Oh god, the lead guy is from Mad Men. I can't unsee it now.

I don't know how I feel about this. I'm actively picking out actors in the preview. Definitely saw Parkman from heroes in there. I mean, what's really stopping the next step from being live action scenes? I guess that's not necessarily a bad thing, but when I play games I want them to be contained in their own world. For me, it ruins the ambiance if I'm recognizing actors from other things.

Where do you think you see him? Looked it over twice and don't see anybody like him so looked it up and his name isn't listed with the game.

Edit: I see the guy at 2:18 looks a bit like at least.

He is all I see! And the guy from Heroes, uh, at least 2 guys from Lost (and he was also on Mad Men... Patrick Fischer). I also just saw Walter from Fringe in this last trailer. It is going to take some getting used to seeing faces of real actors in my games now =P

THANK YOU! I had a well not so much of an argument with my friend, but i simply couldn't explain to him why this sort of ... breaks things for me. I haven't ever had a problem imagining a character from a game because it isn't like you see the main character from one game make an appearance as a completely different character in a different game. Make sense? They are always confined to their title and as such it is just easier to 'believe' they are that character.

I probably sound insane I know, but it is going to take some getting used to see an actor that I recognize and suspend that recognition and just see them as the character they portray. My friend's main argument was that that is just the way it is going to be, actors are movie, tv, game actors now. And really, it IS NO DIFFERENT than seeing Sean Connery play James Bond and then play Indiana Jone's father. Same actor, different character.

I am just not used to having to unsee that in my games! =P

EDIT: Wow, looking at the cast of the game, there are at least 8 more actors from Heroes (including the Puppet Master) and 12 from Mad Men and like 6 or so bit part actors from Gilmore Girls apparently. Not shocking but interesting to me I guess. No one is nearly as recognizable as Parkman though, mostly 1-2 episode characters.

Recurring characters in American games is hard to get used to. Voice acting is one thing, but seeing faces is so much different.

So, what's the actual gameplay of this game supposed to be like?
From everything I've seen so far, it looks like GTA's(Rockstar's), big open sandbox world, and then the clue searching/interrogation is Heavy Rain-ish.

I don't think any substantial gameplay has been shown really, just a bunch of disjointed segments and cutscenes. If I had to guess, I would say its less like GTA and more scripted, just more branching paths instead of one linear story. I'm picking it up day 1 so I'll let you know.

According to the devs it's supposed to be nothing like GTA/Red Dead/etc, though everything I've seen makes it look part GTA/Red Dead part Heavy Rain. I'd assume the reason no one has said much is because Rockstar's been fairly tight lipped about specifics regarding the game and there's been no demos.

The stuff I've seen looks good, I just hate big ope sandbox games (like GTA and red dead and infamous) and I won't buy it if it is a sand box like that, but if I do buy it, it'll be day 1, so I hope that's not how I find out lol

Yeah, it's not a huge game where you can roam endlessly for hours, it's a pretty compact map, but there is some freedom for sidequests and item hunting inside of it. When I said GTA/RDRish I was talking more in respects to gameplay, not map size. Sorry, should've clarified on that one. Aside from that though, I'm pretty confident (read: hoping) that this ends up being dissimilar to anything Rockstar has put out so far, the wife and I are looking forward to it and I'm really hoping it doesn't end up feeling like just GTA with a splash of Heavy Rain.

I hadn't heard a word about this until I just saw an ad on the side of a city bus today. I'm impressed. It definitely looks exactly like a Heavy Rain in a small GTA world. I think it's GTA aesthetic is going to tempt me much too often and I'll end up trying to run people over or shoot an old lady in the face.

    The facial motion-capture is phenomenal.

I'm just counting the days until this comes out. Not much more than a week now.

In preparation for this game and to keep me occupied the next days, what would be good crime/detective movies to watch that are set in that same time period (40-50's)? (Doesn't have to be in LA though). I'll start with LA Confidential, the obvious influence, though I've already seen it. Any movies about the black dahlia murder that are worth it?
