Would you have PLDs engaged if you were lowmanning it with <6 people? You can't make a blanket statement here; so much depends on your party setup and such. In the event that you fight it while not engaged (which is perfectly fine depending on situation), this is one of the rare occasions where Hauteclaire is actually useful.

If you were lowmanning it with ~6 people I would probably be engaged as long as MP wasn't an issue. You can disengage when shit goes down hill you know. I'd say being engaged with higher numbers is worse. Why do shitty 300 damage atonements feeding uneccisary tp when you have a few samurai's knocking out higher damage by tping on it?

I agree with the latter point, which gives Haute some small amount of value. You can of course disengage if shit hits the fan, but when lowman it then becomes a question of (assuming you don't want to lose TP), is the damage you gain worth the increased risk? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. If you don't care about losing TP then you of course get the best of both worlds.

But in the situation where you have someone who only has Paladin, has a Hauteclaire as well as other standard swords and who has to tank it lowman where TP is a concern, Hauteclaire is a valid option. That's all I'm arguing... not that it's the best option, not that it's the perfect option with the best setup, just that it is a valid option and actually going to be useful unlike most fights in the game.

Have you fought Khim? I don't mean this in a patronising way at all; he just attacks quickly and is difficult to enfeeble, especially lowman. You practically need /blm on BRD to Elegy him and that leaves a large window where it is challenging if you don't have a few BRDs. Takes multiple casts on RDM a large percentage of the time.

Between Dreadstorm/Tourbillion/etc, you're gonna eat physical damage at some point.
