Windower Not Hooking (Windows 7 x64)

ok got another solution from windower forum.
For those that have problem with windows 7 when windower dont load on FF11, dl Fraps, install it, run it before you run windower, then start windower x64 and it works, can dual box etc.. without any problem. Idle seems fine too.

Ok I understand the differences, the extra quotes are no big deal. Thanks for the info man I just downloaded v4 about to test it.


edit: it works nicely can't wait for those scripts to come through, and spellcast lite should def be the first addon u work on getting supported XP lol

If that's the case, I'll let you know I plan on pulling that functionality OUT of spellcast, and into a new plugin/addon probably just called "SmartCast" or something equally lame.

Basically for people who don't want gear swaps but want the easy commands, they can have them. And that will be done way before spellcast is implemented

After trying everything i could i reinstalled the latest windower on my windows 7 x64 OS, downloaded latest version of Fraps. I installed Fraps then ran it in the background, then i ran windower gui with x64 checked and... IT WORKED! Windower runs just as smooth as it did when i played on XP =D a big THANK YOU for the help!

turn UAC off and run the launcher.exe in compatibility mode. It worked for me and im on windows 7 64bit

Look, I know you're trying to help, but you're not doing anything if you don't actually read the problem. I said in the original post that I got Windower to work fine before I took a break near the end of December. That would imply I've bypassed the obvious Compatibility issues with Windows 7 (IE: Run as Admin/UAC). I tried to be nice about people suggesting it the first few times, but this is probably the 5th or 6th time UAC has been mentioned. No one here is even having that problem as far as I can tell. The UAC thing causes crashes. It has nothing to do with Windower not hooking (which is the only thing causing the actual crashes).

I'm not sure what is going on with this FRAPs talk. It isn't working at all. Even when FRAPs is set to not always be on top, all it does is crash FFXI whenever it loads (when FRAPs is in the background) just as if I already tabbed out.

Yeah it's a difficult problem because 2 people running Win7 x64:

1) Will run perfectly with no issues
2) Will crash and won't hook

The problem is, Aikar's computer is #1, so it's hard for him to debug. There's no way of knowing if it's a DirectX problem, a hardware(type) problem, or just user error (doubtful).

So unfortunately someone from group #1 will always have a hard time understanding why an otherwise computer-savvy person from group #2 can't run windower :/

And sadly it seems the quick fixes of running fraps, internet explorer, windower v4 etc in the background is very hit or miss within group #2.

Well, hopefully Nitsuj can get the new v4 release out sometime soon so we can at least have script macros. And then if he gets spellcast, recast, and tparty out, I'll start looking into a way to bare his children.

yea, same lol. 4 works fine for me, although for soem reason i have no game sound effects, but w.e to that.

And to answer to Belgaer I'm sorry for you but most people I know that had a problem with w7, the problem was fixed with installing and runing fraps prior to launching Windower.

Well, good news, thanks to a guy in IRC who has been helping out with the v4 Lua, the next release will have a functional version of TParty included.

Bad news, still working out some kinks with the v4 core stuff, so it's not ready yet. :/

Yeah when I put out another alpha, just use it, and break it.

And probably more importantly, compile a list of features that you REALLY feel it lacks... and by list I mean a list that isn't "Spellcast and Recast plugins". I mean, the little things you use that most people forget about.

Something you can load and start/stop/reset (etc) using certain key strokes until it's unloaded.

-Better Clock.
With a way to set it to 12 or 24 hour settings. There doesn't really need to be anything more advanced than that, I guess.

-Paste (and other stuff)
I doubt highlighting and copying in-game chat logs would be possible, but it would be damn awesome. If not, being able to paste like in v3 would be nice.

-Screenshots
Pretty much like the screenshots v3 had, but maybe with a simpler way to disable plugin overlays (so they don't show in the pic).

-Status Timer
I used this in v3 and loved it to death. It's nice being able to plan ahead for when buffs wear off. I prefer it over Yarnball, personally.

As a BLU, I skillchain a lot. I hate not being able to see my skillchain damage when I do, so I really miss this one. :/

I feel so utterly useless in Nyzul Isle now. I miss being able to see through walls so badly. lol

It would be great if resizing the window didn't affect the resolution or aspect ratio of the game. I don't know if it's possible to do this, but it would be really nice for Windows 7 users that like to make use of the Snap feature.

-Silence
Less chat log spam = less log lag. Always a nice thing.

Azaril's clock was a proof of concept, really. It'll have more options soon. I'd kinda like to expand clock to not only have 12/24 support and timezone support, but support for Vanadiel time and upcoming moonphases and other info.

Copy/paste is part of the next phase of updates (after the one I'm trying to get out right now)

I'm trying to conceptualize a plan to make recast, yarnball and statustimer all one plugin. Still working on that, though.

This upcoming release will at least have the support for chatmon, whether or not I write an initial version is up in the air.

I think ideally I'd like to make the new chatmon lua, that way you can write your own rules to block certain chatlines or just find someone elses on a forum. We'll see how much time I have, though.

Bump because I'm wondering if there has been any progress on fixing this? Or are we boned until Windows 8 comes out? But I did download FRAPS and it works just fine...just annoying to have to open up moar than 1 program lol
