Windower Not Hooking (Windows 7 x64)

No progress has been made. We're basically boned until Aikar fixes it (I got the impression he's not working on a fix) or until v4 has enough support to compare to v3 (no idea how long that will take).

v4 will slowly start gaining functionality over the coming months, but sadly that's about the only option you'll have if noone updates v3.

Oddly, I just ran into this non-hooking problem myself.

ATI's newest 10.3 drivers will break it.
Using various compatibilty settings didn't fix it.
Trying the new hook didn't fix it.

Using the fraps trick (loading it then closing it once in game) surprisingly worked.

I will trying rolling back the drivers later to double check.

No settings within Fraps (other than turning off FPS overlay) should affect anything I would think. Also are you guys using the full (paid) version or just the trial/whatever version. I have a paid account (got it free years ago) so idk if there is any differences.

Just loaded the trial version of fraps, thats it. Didn't change a single setting. But for some reason you have to wait till your fully in game. If you close it a bit early some remaining plugins oddly won't load.

It also doesn't seem to matter if you load before or after POL, as long as it's running before you hit the game screen.

Right, just done a driver roll back to the Catalyst 10.2's. Problem is all gone with no need for the fraps or new hook work around. So as far as my system is concerened it is 100% driver related.

As fo Nvidia cards, fraid I can't help.

Updated and same problem. Rolledback to 10.2 and it works fine.

so i don't understand most of whats going on here.. but I just tried downloading windower and using it on my new laptop since my old one died.. and windower just doesnt seem to work.

i'm assuming the problem is in the same category as this, since mine is W7 and im guessing x64 means 64bit. idk. not really tech savvy.

any idiot proof fixes or am i stuck with in-game windower?

x64 is if you are running the 64bit OS.

Also, remember to run Windower as Administrator or it won't work. And turn off the FFXI Shit windowed mode.

ok windower wasnt enabling at first..
but after running as admin, it was.
still couldnt tab out tho.

tried compat mode, and the launcher gui thing.

only thing left to do is turn uac off. now to reboot

I can't really offer any suggestions other than to say that my windower is working mostly fine on windows 7 64-bit with UAC turned on (but screen-dimming turned off).

It does crash on shutdown post-patch if I have plugins loaded, but /unloadall takes care of that...

I'm using the WHQL version of the nvidia drivers from..january I think? the newer ones crashed out when I alt-tabbed.

Yeah, try different version of video card drivers also. It's pretty finicky.

windower started hooking when i started running launcher (and POL and launcher_gui) as administrator.

my only problem really had always been just alt-tabbing in the game on full-screen. as long as i tabbed out, i would crash the game..

i tried other stuff recommended and it wouldn't work, so i just tried running it in a window as opposed to full screen. did that by opening the launcher config .txt and just changing the resolution.. and now everything is fine.

i AM playing on a smaller resolution than full screen, but i set it to very close to full so its not such a big deal. and i can still tab out and use the rest of my PC at the same time.. so I'm happy for now.

edit: also, turned UAC off but i'm actually pretty certain I can turn it back on and it'll run. Didn't run in compatibility either.

I'm using Launcher, not Launcher_GUI atm.

So, as it turns out, Fraps does make v3 work. But only when the res is set to fit the screen's res. It's weird that I didn't try that until just now... Oh well. Yay. :D

Oh, FYI, Aikar: It didn't work with the Hook you posted in this thread, but it worked with the 3.42 on the wiki download page.

My windower launcer quit starting pol sometime between last tuesday evening and sunday afternoon. Not sure if it was an update to windows 7 or something that may be the problem. Anyone having or had this problem? same problem with a fresh windower install, and pol works fine (and ffxi as well) w/o windower.

don't wanna read through this to see if this has been solved but what i had to do is make sure the resolution fit the screen and also right click both pol.exe and the launcher program go into properties and hit run as admin on both. also disable uac if you haven't
