Do people even know what communism and socialism are, or the difference between the two? I have to think the people who are the most afraid of it have the weakest grasp of it.

I wonder what the average conservative would think of conflict theory if they had no idea it was from the Karl Marx(aka Satan). Most of the teabaggers are being exploited by our loosely regulated form of capitalism anyway.

The public pays for education, and how many kids let that go to waste? If you offer something to everyone, then yes there will be some who try to take advantage of that. The question is then, is it worth it? I believe health care is one of the things worth taking the loss. Someone should never have to choose between paying their medical bills and say their mortgage or college education.

I don't really like the analogy with health care and education. Educating the kids gives everyone a chance. Taking care of everyones health will take care of people who don't care at all. Sort of on that note, I'd be all for universal health care for anyone under the age of 18.

What about the people who lived under it? I've met 5 people that lived in the Soviet Union, all of them said it was as bad as we say it is. What's their excuse?

It's not the system themselves that are inherently bad, it is the abuse of said system by those in power and the propaganda used to force a systems tenets down a populations throat.

Right now across the world because of Reagan, Bush Sr., and Bush Jr. a lot of South American, Eastern European, Western Asian, and the Middle Eastern countries view America's brand of capitalist democracy in the same light we view communism.

You can find 5 people from the US that live in Russia now that will tell a Russian it is as bad in the US as Russians think it is. Did you know that every metropolitan and suburban zone in Russia has free T1 internet paid for by the government? Ya, fuck socialism in the ass what a bunch of bullshit for them to have faster internet provided by the "big gumment" than the US private sector can provide in the free market.

As for communism, in theory it could be fine, in practice it is way too easy to abuse, same with anarchist models, in theory they could devolve into warlord states, but what the philosophies intend, is not necessarily how they are applied.
