Was running some pdif tests, and got some more mantle data:
Test 1: 111/1638 = 6.78%(Original Test on Puks)
Test 2: 84/1521 = 5.52%(Crabs)
Test 3: 126/2080 = 6.06%(Crabs)
Total: 321/5,239 = 6.13%

Pro-tip, you arent capped on shield block rate on anything that matters. And shadow mantle wins regardless. Use boxers when you're doing lower level stuff or soloing /rdm, use shadow mantle for everything else. Until SE comes out with a defending ring back piece, there isnt much other options for pure damage mitigation for pld.
Spoiler: show
WHY DIDN'T YOU SAVE ALKALINEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Maybe I'm completely missing something. Why would I use boxers on things that I can cap shield regardless (The lower level things you mentioned, which is a pretty vague statement) over Shadow mantle? I realize that for pure dmg mitigation shadow mantle would be best (barring the release of any amount of pdt-% on a back piece) but then why would I use it over boxers for casting (the subject I was discussing) when that would basically be betting on the 6% chance of null dmg vs a constant increase to shield skill?
Explain?
I realize that. So, 6% chance to proc compounded with nothing > 10shield skill compounded with base capped skill in situations with the ability to cap or come close to capping shield procs for casting?
I know that shadow mantle is the better choice when you don't have a prayer for capping rate.
Ps. I'm not your bro, brah.
When people asked me what the proc rate was, I always said 7% from eye-balling. Glad to know I was fairly close.![]()
I know this may not be true, and I don't really feel like testing it myself, I was curious though since it wasn't answered elsewhere in this thread, I also have observed / heard that the lower your HP (yellow, orange, red) the higher the % proc rate of Shadow Mantle as a hidden effect, can anyone confirm or deny this?
I was wondering if anyone would be willing to test this, though it'd be kind of hard to do so... I do know one thing for sure, and that's that my Mantle seems to proc awfully often when I'm in orange/red and about to die, it's saved my life countless times on multiple jobs, usually BLM.
Call it bias if you want, but I can say pretty confidently that it procs a whole lot more than 6% of the time when I'm in red, that or I take a whole lot more hits in red than I realize =P
Could dig out screenshots but I'd have to go through my folders... I can think of a bunch just off the top of my head, a memorable one being duo JoFaith where I got a proc with 3 HP and lived after getting smacked because I got hit by stupor spores. Maybe I just WANT it to be true, but it does seem to activate more in lower HP, would love to see testing done.
I've heard people notice not dying a lot more than they notice getting hit for 0 when it doesn't matter.
I heard 0s on stoneskin don't register on the mantle justification scale. If you're dying, stoneskin tends to be down /shrug. I haven't noticed any variation in mine based on hp, but i went back to umbra anyway.
I don't have stoneskin on BLM/NIN and mantle procs a lot when I'm orange / red, especially when I'm low enough the hit would kill me /shrug. Even if it isn't true I'll stick with my placebo <3
6% of the time, it works every time.
I vote for placebo effect! http://www.newsweek.com/id/232781
A page too late, but Konda, stop posting. Thanks.
