Hey gang! I just wanted to give you a quick little update of some breaking news regaurding Superman. Earlier today it was reported that Kevin Costner might end up joining the cast of Zack Snyder's Superman reboot in a "Key Role". At the time we had no idea what role he would be playing if cast, but now we do.
According to our friends at Latino Review, if Costner is officially cast in the film he will be taking on the role of Clarks father Jonathan Kent, which is a role I can totally see Costner playing! In fact I hate to say it, but he's perfect for the part.

Now that British hunk Henry Cavill is set to play the Man of Steel, the search is on the fill out the rest of the cast of Warner Bros.' big-budget Superman reboot. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that producer Christopher Nolan and director Zack Snyder are zeroing in on an intriguing actor to play the villain: Viggo Mortensen.
Mortensen, who is still in negotiations for Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman, is said to be at the top of the list to play General Zod, the evil and super-powered scientist who was portrayed by Terrence Stamp in 1980's Superman II. If Mortensen's Snow White deal doesn't close, that would potentially free him up to make Superman. Or Universal and Warner Bros. could work out his schedule and enable him to do both.
Sources say no talks have commenced and that Mortensen is just a "person of interest," much like Kevin Costner is for the role of Jonathan Kent. The actors aren't the only ones considered for their respective roles, though they are the ones most seriously talked about.
Snyder is in the midst of meeting actors for not only the role of Zod and Kent, but the three female parts well. Given the Nolan pedigree with the Batman films and the tenpole nature of a Superman film, the roles are considered some of the hottest and most-desired in town.
Warner Bros. had no comment.
Give me fucking DARKSEID!

Diane Lane is officially set to star as Martha Kent in Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman reboot. The film stars Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent/Superman in the film being produced by Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder. The script is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. The film is set for a December 2012 release.
Here is what Snyder had to say:
We reported that both Kevin Costner and Viggo Mortensen are circling roles in the film. There is not a confirmation yet, but Costner may take on the role of Jonathan Kent and Mortensen may star as General Zod.“This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman. We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.”
Here is the official announcement:
DIANE LANE CAST AS MARTHA KENT IN WARNER BROS. PICTURES’ AND LEGENDARY PICTURES’ NEW SUPERMAN MOVIE
BURBANK, CA, March 2, 2011 – Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Oscar®-nominated actress Diane Lane will play Martha Kent, the only mother Clark Kent has ever known, in the new Superman movie to be directed by Zack Snyder.
Snyder stated, “This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman. We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.”
Lane will star with Henry Cavill, who was recently announced as the new Clark Kent/Superman.
Lane earned an Academy Award® nomination for her performance in the 2002 drama “Unfaithful.” She most recently starred in the family hit “Secretariat.” She next stars in the HBO feature “Cinema Verite,” opposite Tim Robbins and James Gandolfini. Lane’s long list of film credits also includes “Nights in Rodanthe,” “Hollywoodland,” “Must Love Dogs,” “Under the Tuscan Sun,” “Perfect Storm,” “My Dog Skip,” “Chaplin,” “The Cotton Club” and “A Little Romance,” to name only a portion.
Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
Slated for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Kevin Costner has finalized a deal to play Jonathan Kent, the adopted father of Clark Kent according to Deadline. The news comes today after we told you that Zack Snyder has planned his Superman as a stand alone film. Costner is set to star opposite Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel and Diane Lane, who is playing Martha Kent, his adopted mother.
Chris Nolan, Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, and Deborah Snyder are serving as producers on the film. The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
It was reported earlier that Viggo Mortensen was the top contender to play the villain, but that is looking less likely because he's close to signing a deal to star in Snow White and the Huntsman. So if not Mortensen, then who will play the villain in the film?

http://geektyrant.com/news/2011/3/16...n-its-own.htmlI'm incredibly excited to see what Christopher Nolan, David Goyer and Zack Snyder have in store for us with this new Superman film that they're developing. I've liked what I've heard so far, and Snyder continues to hype up the film project saying,
I love that they are approaching the film like this. As much as I love Richard Donner's version, the Superman movie franchise really needs a complete reboot. As much as I liked Singer's vision of paying homage to Donner's film, it ended up being a major disappointment.Literally, the one thing that everyone can start to think about is that we’re making a movie that finally goes with the approach that there’s been no other Superman movies. If you look at ‘Batman Begins,’ there’s that structure, there’s the canon that we know about and respect but on other hand there’s this approach that pre-supposes that there haven’t been any other movies. In every aspect of design and of story, the whole thing is very much from that perspective of respect the canon but don’t be a slave to the movies.
Snyder goes on to talk about working with Nolan saying,
As previously reported Henry Cavill has been cast as the Man of Steel, which the title of the film might end up being. Diane Lane has also been cast as Martha Kent, and Kevin Costner might end up playing Jonathan Kent, both of which are great casting decisions. As far as the rest of the casting goes Snyder said, “There’s more to come and I think it’s consistent in its … awesomeness.” I can't wait to see who he's going to bring on board! It’s been really great. Chris is awesome. He’s super-respectful but super-helpful, too. You can’t imagine a more generous [collaborator]…once he sort of got what I want to do with it, he was like, ‘OK,’ and once he said, ‘You know what, that’s awesome,’ now he’s 100%. If I say, ‘What do you think of this?’ he’s like, ‘That’s awesome,’ and then there’s a great give-and-take about it, a great conversation that we can have about it and making it better everyday. And by the way he’s hilarious, too.
I've been waiting for an epic Superman movie to come along for a long time, and it may actually happen with Nolan and Snyder building it.Superman is the one constant in the universe. You know that if you do Superman right — or at least if you do him with respect — you know you end up with something great…. [but] in some ways [beyond] that is virgin territory. No one knows what that is. In some ways Superman is the most recognizable superhero on the planet but also the most unknown. Just what he can be? People have preconceived ideas about him but probably all of them are wrong.

http://geektyrant.com/news/2011/3/24...eading-to.htmlThe dispute over who owns the rights to the Superman franchise is getting nastier the closer that Warner Bros. is getting to it's Superman: Man of Steel reboot. For those of you not aware, Warners is in a legal dispute with the heirs of co-creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, which stems "from a 2008 court ruling that the Siegels are entitled to terminate the copyrights to some—but not all—of Superman’s defining characteristics, such as his costume, Clark Kent and his origin story, as described in the first editions of Action Comics."
Despite years of court battles, including the studio's pending lawsuit against the heirs’ lawyer Marc Toberoff for allegedly interfering with contracts, a final decision hasn't been made on whether the Shusters and Siegels can take back other key elements of the Superman mythology (Lex Luthor and Kryptonite).
These legal issues have also caused problems for Toberoff to sell distribution rights for Superman to another studio(and pressure Warners into a settlement). Toberoff has now appealed the limited grant of rights to the 9th Circuit, hoping that the appeals court will finally determine who owns what.
Here is what Toberoff had to say:
Hopefully, Warner Bros. can resolve these legal matters befor they lose certain rights to the character in 2013. No need to panic, the reboot is scheduled to arrive in 2012, but the studio would not be able to pursue sequels. The studio and lead lawyer Daniel Petrocelli can breathe easier for awhile, though. The financial issues with the Siegels and Shusters will be on hold pending the latest appeal.”It’s cutting to the chase, it is widely recognized that Judge Larson’s rulings on summary judgment largely favored the Siegels in upholding the validity of their termination as to Action Comics No.1, containing the core Superman format and characters.”
Here is what Warner Bros. had to say:
“DC Comics and Warner Bros. are fully confident that the trial court's rulings against the Siegels are correct and will be affirmed on appeal."

News flash: Contrary to popular belief, you do not need either Kryptonite or Lex Luthor for a Superman movie. They need another reboot story like Spider-Man does. Guys, guys... I bet you didn't know Superman was sent from a planet named Krypton when he was an infant as it was blowing up and sent to Earth to save humanity. And on the way to the ship all he kept hearing was "With great power comes great responsibility!" Wait.. fuck. I'm mixing my movies up. WE GET IT. Do something different. We know these characters origins. And if you don't well... too fucking bad. Read it on the internet.
His costume and Clark Kent however, kinda need those. Stop already with the Zod, LL, and everything. Superman has tons of foes that can go toe to toe with him. Black Adam, Bizarro, Darkseid, Doomsday, etc.
Seeing Lobo as the villian would be pretty damn sick

Zack Snyder announced today that Amy Adams has been officially cast in the role of Lois Lane in Superman: Man of Steel according to the LA Times.
The 36-year old actress has been nominated for an Oscar three times, most recently for her role in The Fighter for David O. Russell. She was previously nominated for the indie film Junebug and for her role in Doubt, starring opposite Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman. She has also starred in Enchanted, Julia & Julia, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and Leap Year. She will be seen in The Muppets next opposite Jason Seagal and has a supporting role in Walter Salles' On the Road.
Here is what Snyder had to say about the casting search:
"There was a big, giant search for Lois. For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.”
Snyder went on to mention that the plan to make Lane relevant to today's audiences is a top priority. Of course, major plot details were not discussed in the interview. It is not known if Lane's character will be a love interest for Clark Kent/Superman. There is a definite age difference between Cavill at 27 and Adams at 36, but not one that makes a difference to me.

http://geektyrant.com/news/2011/3/27...code-name.htmlWe have another little update on Superman: The Man of Steel for you. This news isn't as exciting as the Lois Lane casting, but it it talks about the shooting location, code name and budget.
The film is scheduled to start shooting in Chicago in August, and will shoot for two or three months with production centered in suburban Plano as the semi-rural setting of Smallville, and will shoot under the code name "Autumn Frost". The plan is to shoot the outside scenes in Chicago, and the inside scenes in Vancouver, Britsh Columbia.
It's also been reported that the film has a budget of $175 million dollars.

<3 Amy Adams.
Hopefully she can bring back the spunk that made Margot Kidder such a great Lois Lane.
$175 mil? I don't think they're spending enough money on this...
Amy Adams seems like a great addition. Loved her in the Fighter. Hopefully we'll get some definite word on villain castings soon.
So is it still a wise idea to let Snyder have control over the Superman film? Especially after uh.. the last piece of shit he has in theaters? Just curious on your opinions.
Well he's not writing this.
So long as Snyder doesn't have free rein, he does good work.
I think Superman Returns had like a 200 million dollar budget, which is insane. I remember them spending a shit ton of money on the 3D sequences, particularly the plane scene. I think the 175 million now will get them further than the 200 did 5 years ago. Most of the money is probably going to visuals. Henry Cavill an the chick they got to play Lois aren't huge actors. Diane Lane and Kevin Costner are only supporting, so yeah, I think the most is going to special effects. Count on lots of slow motion face punches.
