H'El on Earth would make for an amazing sci-fi movie, no doubt. At very least with Zod as the villain and Snyder directing we know FOR SURE we'll get some badass fighting. For me, even if it's bad... it'll be a movie I thoroughly enjoy mainly because I'm a Superman fanboy and I love seeing comic book action on the big screen.

Same here, I love the new run of Justice League also. Wish it could be that good as a movie.

That new poster looks fan made, too grainy for my tastes. Are we to assume that the US(?) have 'captured' Superman, even though he most likely can escape any time he wants to?

It's not fanmade. It was a reveal for some online TDKR stuff.

I thought it was stupid he was in handcuffs too though. I'm assuming he is cooperating with his captors because he could be out of there so fast if he wanted to lol.

Director Christopher Nolan is out promoting the Blu-ray/DVD release of The Dark Knight Rises, and in an interview with The Playlist he dodges questions about Justice League as talks about Zack Snyder's Man of Steel and if the world connects to his Batman universe. He also expresses confidence in what Snyder is doing with the character.

When asked about the possibility of producing the Justice League movie he said, "Well, as I’ve said, and I’ll say definitively again, I am done with the Batman films, the trilogy is completed. It ended in the manner we had envisioned." If you ask me, he did a great job beating around the bush with that answer. We know he's done with Batman, but that has nothing to do with the Justice League question that was asked. I guess there could be a possibility that he might produce the movie. He's then asked if he's finished with the superhero movie genre, Nolan smiled and said, "Well, I’m producing Superman now and I’m enjoying time off and taking a break." Who knows what he'll do after the break though, but he managed to dodge another question. He dodged questions about himself coming back to direct a third Batman film for a long time, then all of a sudden he was directing it. I imagine he's doing the same thing here.

The conversation then moves on to Man of Steel, and when asked if there's a brand connection between his Batman films and Man of Steel he said, "Well, somewhat, but I wouldn’t want people to think we're doing for Superman what we did for Batman." He went on to express his confidence in the project saying,

It's very much Zack’s film and I think people are going to love what he's done. I think it's really remarkable to take on that character. Superman is a completely different character than Batman. So you can't in anyway use the same template. But David Goyer had this, I thought, brilliant way to make Superman relatable and relevant for his audience. Zack has built on that and I think it's incredible what he's putting together. He's got a lot of finishing to do on that. Superman is the biggest comic book character of them all and he needs the biggest possible movie version which is what Zack's doing. It's really something.

In a recent article with The New York Post, director Zack Snyder discussed some information regarding the highly anticipated Man of Steel. Snyder covers why he and the producers decided to redesign the Superman suit. In addition, he revealed how Henry Cavill might fit into a larger Justice League universe and shared info on what role Christopher Nolan played to shape the film.

Here is what he had to say about the iconic costume:

The costume was a big deal for me, and we played around for a long time. I tried like crazy to keep the red briefs on him. Everyone else said, ‘You can't have the briefs on him.' I looked at probably 1,500 versions of the costumes with the briefs on. If you look at the costume, it's very modern, but the relationship to the original costume is strong. You come onto a project like this, and you hear about modernization and you hear about bringing things forward to today, and all you can do is hope that it's going to look cool and different from anything you've seen before.
Snyder then mentions how Man of Steel could lead to more films, and perhaps even serve as the foundation for the linked universe with the impending Justice League:

We approach the film as a single endeavor. There are a lot of gears that have to turn in the world of commerce and the world of the mythology we create to facilitate more adventures for this character. We'll see what happens... I don't know how ‘Justice League' is going to be handled. Honestly, I don't. But ‘The Man of Steel' exists, and Superman is in it. I don't know how you'd move forward without acknowledging that.
Finally, Snyder talks a bit about Supermans legacy and reveals how the film was shaped by the influence of producer Christopher Nolan:

We tried to approach this as though there's never been a Superman movie before, but at the same time respecting the canon and mythology. There are the pillars that you have to respect, and I'm not about to break them. But it is fun for me to bend them and mess with them. There's a logic and concreteness that has to exist with Chris. You can't just do stuff because it's cool. He demands that there be story and character behind all of it, which I'm a big fan of.

Superman: Man of Steel (June 14, 2013)

Is there anything redone in the new 52 that makes Superman relatable at all?

He's more gritty in Action Comics and can't fly, also can be taken down with enough firepower.

Iirc, originally Superman couldn't fly. Just had mad jumping skills (hence "able to leap tall buildings in a single bound") But I've never been much of a Superman fan so...

Even in the new Justice League he gets his ass kicked all the time. Darkseid beats the shit out of him. He seems to be tone down and the costume he wears also serves like an armor from what I understand. So does Supergirls skimpy armor.

New52 is a bit of an odd duck right now. His durability has apparently gone down (WW, GL, and a few others have drawn blood from him from physical force) yet he withstood a direct Omega Beam blast from Darkseid and lived, while his strength and speed seem to be turned up to 11.

Notable feats from Superman and Red Hood and the Outlaws are:

    1. Superman - Bench pressed the weight of the Earth for 5 days straight (5.93 sextillion tons) and as a result... he had one bead of sweat which apparently he hasn't done since he was a kid.
    2. Red Hood and the Outlaws - Jason and crew were in his ship out by Pluto, Superman comes to have a chat, they panic and teleport back to Earth instantaneously only to find Superman show up almost at the same time. (That puts his speed upwards of 350x the speed of light)

If I remember correct it also may been due to lack of sunshine in that 5 days lol
