    XBLA Perfect Dark

So who remembers the old days in the late 90's of getting three friends together and death matching with proximity mines in Facility? Who remembers having the screen split into four quadrants? On a 14 inch TV? With an FPS of about 10 as the N64 ground to a halt? Who remembers enjoying it despite all that bullshit?

If you've ever tried to go back to Goldeneye or Perfect Dark after playing modern FPS offerings, it can be a little rough. Emulators can let you step up the resolution and frame rate quite a bit, but even then it doesn't offer some of the conveniences of modern gaming, like online multiplayer, with any sort of ease. On top of that, Perfect Dark Zero, by most accounts, was a crushing disappointment to many fans.

Some of you might even remember seeing footage of an essentially finished port of Goldeneye for the 360, only to find out it would never see the light of day due to the entanglement of intellectual property rights.

Lucky for us, Rare's spiritual successor to Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, has been ported to the XBox 360 and will be released mid-March. While all the weapons, maps, and gameplay have been retained, all the character and weapon models have been remastered and the engine is now going to run at a silky smooth 1080P at 60 FPS.

    Any new features?
As mentioned, all the character models and weapon models are being redone with about ten times the original polys used. The textures have been redone as well. The game will run at a consistent 60 FPS at up to 1080P, a huge leap from the stuttering mess the original Perfect Dark became at times. Being a 360 arcade game, it will also come with a set of 20 achievements, and there's some talk of new special challenges for hardcore players.

The port will feature the same old four player split screen multiplayer. However, it will also allow you to go online in split screen against up to eight players. The counter-operative and co-operative modes will be supported online as well.

Additionally, if I remember right, the Goldeneye weapons were only allowed in single player mode with cheats in the original Perfect Dark. They are now allowed in multiplayer modes- this means, along with the inclusion of some Goldeneye deathmatch maps (Facility, Complex, and Temple, I think), you can essentially play Goldeneye deathmatch online now.

Rare has additionally stated that if this port sells well, they may even create new DLC weapons and maps.

There hasn't been any confirmation if the option to put your face on a character model, which was removed in the original due to controversy, has been ported for compatibility with the 360 camera.

What will the control system be like?
Rare has stated the default control system will emulate the N64, with the C buttons simply being mapped to the right stick. Everything else will function pretty much the same, down to the aiming system and movement/rotation speeds. They're also including two alternate layouts, called "Spartan" and "Duty Calls", for those that are more accustomed to modern console FPSes.

Well shit, this sounds awesome, how much will it cost?
Rare has priced this game at 800 MSP, or 10 bucks, which is an absolute steal considering how much content Perfect Dark has.

    When does it come out?
While Rare hasn't stated an exact date, most mumblings out there seem to indicate March 10th or March 17th.

Needless to say, I'm absolutely psyched. I still go back to these games from time to time and have a blast, but being able to legitimately play them online with remastered graphics is going to be fantastic.

This youtube playlist includes most of the known PD footage from this last week's X10 conference. Of particular note is the "Dual AKs" video, which shows off that you can basically do Goldeneye styled deathmatch.

The raspy weird sounding guy commentating everything is Ken Lobb, one of the original developers of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. I got a good lol when he picked up the KLOBB and said "That's my gun right there- it's still crap!"

I'm pretty excited to have a good, modern split screen game as well. While I'm not crazy about the halo series, I can't deny that playing 4 player split screen halo 3 online was a boatload of fun. There's just something about the 4 way split screen experience that can't be replaced.

Yup, I saw the trailer yesterday..I still remember setting up shop in a small building in Area 52 split screening with 3 of my buddies putting highest level bots and putting up laptop gun torrents waiting for the onslaught to begin.

    Fuckin can't wait for this.

Its pretty awesome how true they stayed to it. It's amusing they kept classic mode in.

Damn, PD was my favorite shooter of all-time. I was a rank 1 with over 11 million kills and at least 100 hours invested in that game.

A re-mastered Trent Easton head on a Mr. Blonde body? I think I may have to AFK for a few...

Guess I'd have to actually do the time limit now for All Guns Cheat in the last Skedar level instead of getting it from my GBA PD game XD

I never got that warp shit down in that level, guess I got to now. First remake I consider buying instead of just popping the shit in my N64.

So this is the full version of the game? Would that mean we can do on-line co-op for the campaign and also do the missions in the multiplayer mode?

I just want to make sure I read correctly and am not dreaming.
