    LCD Monitor for PS3

Hi hi, long time lurker but this board seems like a good place to ask.
I recently decided to buy a PS3 slim mainly for the upcoming FFXIII. Up until now I've mainly owned Nintendo consoles and haven't jumped on the HD train. I figured if I should get a PS3, I might as well move up from my old old TV using composite RCA inputs.

I've looked at reviews at Newegg and Amazon but I realize those aren't always the best...so I turn to you for suggestions, BG.

    I've been looking at:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236059

Would this be any good? I only intend to connect the PS3 through HDMI or to use it as another screen for my laptop. Built-in speakers would be nice (even if they sound terrible). I'm mainly considering anything in the $150-250 range.

Oh and if anyone has a suggestion for one, and only one PS3 game, I'd like to know it! I want one game to tide me over until FFXIII comes, but I can't decide between Demon's Souls, Uncharted 1 or 2, Bayonetta, Darksiders, or whatever...

    Thanks!

I have the 23.6" version of that same Asus monitor line and I love it, highly recommended.

As for another PS3 game, Valkyria Chronicles is awesome. I just finished it a couple weeks ago and can't speak highly enough of it. $20 at Gamestop online or instore, I'd easily have paid 3x that if I'd owned a PS3 when the game was released.

Demon's Souls was a great game. Be prepared to have something to do while you cool off though. I think I rage quit once every gameplay hour on average.

That monitor looks good too. It's the 23"; 16:9 counterpart of the 24"; 16:10 monitor I was planning to buy. The colors won't be as amazing as a $500+ 36"+ hdtv, but they will be good enough.

As always, throwing out the recomendation of the Samsung syncmaster T240HD. Picture is great, 24" is a good size, built in speakers work great. Can post some videos or pics if needed.

This is the monitor I settled with actually, lol. I love it so far. Picture quality isn't as good as my friends 700 dollar 36" HDTV(?), but it's still very good. Only reason I didn't suggest it was because the monitor the OP linked is a lot cheaper. In the future I'm thinking of getting another t240hd and a dell u2410 for eyefinity awesomeness. :3

I got this one just a couple weeks ago: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001281

Serves as both my PC monitor, TV and PS3 video output. Absolutely loving it so far, makes my older 21' acer look tiny in comparison, has support for HDMI, VGA & component cables, as well as a built in TV tuner. <3

Thanks for the responses! The Samsung syncmaster T240HD looks pretty and tempting but it's unfortunately outside of my budget.

On the other hand, I'm considering foregoing purchasing a game and instead investing in the Samsung TOC T260HD. But if not, I'll get one of the Asus ones and get Demon's Souls. Sounds like a rage-inducing game...better to let it out on something cheap if it does come to that! I'll keep asking myself if I want a TV throughout the day tomorrow...

On this topic, I have a question.

I know to hook the PS3 up to the TV you need a HDMI > DVI converter. Easy enough. Audio however is where some people get stuck. I have possibly an easy solution. Please let me know if I'm right or wrong here.

    1) I set up the HDMI>DVI, have picture
    2) Take my existing PS3 component wires, only plugging in the red/white audio jacks in the the computer speakers. My CPU speakers have the red/white audio recievers in the back, so I should theoretically have sound coming from my speakers now, right?
    3)???
    4)Profit?

My question essentially is, if I just use the audio jack portion of the component wires into the speakers I can get sound, right? While having the HDMI cable converter plugged in seperately.

If I'm wrong here, please let me know :3

You said your range was $150-250 so I linked that one. I think it's actually out of stock on NewEgg but I checked again a few days after I bought it and it went up to $280. They come in a few varying sizes, all the same type though. Here's the link to the 22" one, $230.

If your budget is a bit flexible you might want to check out:

It's also 16:10 which is nice if you decide to make it double as a second monitor.

My wife and I have 4 of these between us. Great monitor, and does a perfectly fine job as a TV to hook consoles to when needed.
