Rojo Johnsons debut
Rojo Johnsons debut
I think I'm developing a man crush on both Ike Davis and Rod Barajas. Man those guys are fun to watch.
Odds on Bobby Cox living long enough to see retirement are now 1 in 12.
"Fun" "man crush" and "Rod Barajas" just don't belong together where I come from.
Good call.
Also, Josh Beckett is such an enormous fucking punk. He always has been, but now he blows, so he doesn't have his game to back up his being a prick. CC and Burnett were salivating in the dugout as he repeatedly plunked batters and cursed out those he struck out. Tomorrow will be interesting.

Is Rojo Johnson clip from a real game?
I guess you just let go quicker than the average person does. Most people would be like the Red Sox coaching staff and start their once studs even during a abysmal year (hi2u Ortiz who should be a free agent at this point). Hughes would be an ace on half the MLB teams out there, and his placement in the 5th slot in the Yankees lineup is misleading. He will be a 16 game winner this year, offsetting the shitastic Javy who prob wont be in the roster by the All Star game.
Knowing when to get cut the cord often times separates the winners from the losers in fantasy and the MLB.
Pretty much. I know when Liriano was supposed to rebound last year, and struggled in the first few starts, I dumped him immediately because I didn't like how he was attacking hitters. Same with Carmona after his 20 win year. I drafted him in the 100s, and dropped him before the all-star break.
With Liriano/Hughes this year, both were like.. 220-240s in picks iirc. So like round 20ish, give or take. Basically why my staff isn't so terrible right now. It has Beckett (lol), Josh Johnson, Hughes, Liriano, Ricky Romero (awesome), and uh..Shields and Kershaw. Romero was a free agent pick-up. My closers suck (Wagner, Bailey, and Feliz who's a fill-in for Francisco)
They'll never release Javy, he'll be there until the end one way or another. He's a type A free agent but if they release him he'll likely get downgraded to a type B, and the Yanks will get a shitty pick in the draft. Oh, and he's making like 11 million dollars. Like I said, dude's gonna be here.
Hughes could win 20 if he keeps throwing like this. 95 mph heat at the knees, mixed in with a cutter, nasty curve, and a below-average changup.
Fucking hate all these injuries though. At least they're just nicks and cuts instead of anything serious. I don't think Granderson is gonna be gone the month everyone is predicting, he says he feels fine. Posada and Mariano are good to go, Cano is day to day, Pettite is pissed he can't make his next start. I worry about Nick Johnson, his wrist thing is the same one that knocked him out for the year in 2008. If he goes down I except Juan Miranda up... until Cash gets a DH sometime this summer :/
Let me correct my statement about Javy, I know he is untradeable, I just doubt he will be in the starting 5 if he keeps this up. He is pitching so bad his slot has become a vacancy for any young experiment to fill. He was brought in originally to be an innings hog to rest the bullpen in the latter half of the rotation. Hughes is doing that with stellar pitching and Javy is doing the opposite.
I agree the injuries are annoying, but at the same time, this team is bizarre to the point where they are going to be a surprisingly small factor. They are doing this well with Arod, Tex, and Johnson, their 2,3,4, playing like fucking balls (Johnson's slow ass getting walked a lot doesnt offset his horrid average enough for me, not in the 2 spot). Granderson has been playing like dick since the first couple weeks. Once they start playing to their level, even when Cano and Swish eventually fall off a bit, this team will be even better.
And frankly, again, Johnson doesn't concern me because I don't like him in this lineup, ESPECIALLY the 2 spot. I would rather have Gardner there all damn day. I already anticipated Johnson to be an injury issue, he is just fulfilling his destiny.
Lastly, yes Hughes COULD win 20, but lets be real. Ill say 16 +/- 2.
I love him.“He's a clown,” CC Sabathia said of Braden. “Guy says he's from the 209, what the [bleep] is that? That's where I'm from and I don't know what he's talking about. Two-oh-nine. He needs to just calm down - put that in the paper. That's just tired.”
On the A-Rod/Braden line... I thought this article interviewing Jim Palmer, Bert Blyleven, and Goose Gossage about a few 'unwritten rules' was a fun read: Unwritten rules violations
I dunno, the Yanks don't really have many young pitchers that are ready for the majors that could take Javy's spot. Joba isn't going back into the rotation, Mitre stinks, Nova probably isn't ready, and if I see Igawa again I'll kill myself. Again, I don't see him getting pulled from the rotation, but then again I don't see him continuing to pitch this bad. He has too much of a good track record, I have to think he'll eventually get a good start or two under his belt. What happens after this is anyone's guess.
Arod has actually been hitting well, he just hasn't hit the homers yet. He's still on pace for 100+ RBIs and 80+ runs scored, just needs the power stroke again. But see, I like Johnson in front of the big bats, a walk is as good as a hit with them. Just get on base, and he does that. Granderson and Swisher (the only other good #2 options afaik) don't get on base enough to justify it imo. But it may be a moot point anyway..
But yeah, it's pretty nuts how the team just keeps winning and taking the injuries in stride. Really it's all about the pitching. As long as we have 4 starters throwing well like they are now, the team is gonna win a lot of games. And the offense is clearly still good enough to score a lot of runs.
It sounds like you are a fantasy pitching savant. However if you keep trying to get fancy by benching your best pitchers, you are inevitably going to have them on the bench for some gems, which to me stings worse than having them shellacked in your starting lineup.
Also, Broxton is on the trading block!
Aki wouldn't trade me Liriano.
I partially blame myself for lauding him often in preseason and after his first couple of starts.
