Peavy wants A-Gon on the South Side / CBS Sports

Hard to believe that he vetoed the first proposed deal that would have made it happen, just nine months ago.

Hard to believe because there's no one who believes in the White Sox now more than Jake Peavy does. And no one more interested in seeing a second huge trade bringing a star player from the south side of California to the South Side of Chicago.

"I want Adrian [Gonzalez] to be my teammate over here," Peavy said.

Interesting thought.

Peavy said he has already discussed the idea with White Sox general manager Ken Williams. Williams didn't really need the suggestion, because the talk in White Sox camp is that whenever the Padres decide to move on trading their first baseman, Williams will be one of the first in line to make a deal.

"That's really what we need, a big left-handed hitter," one Sox person said. "They're saying Kenny would give anything to get him, maybe even [Gordon] Beckham."

Just fluff, though I'm one of the few Sox fans on the planet that would give up Beckham for A-Gon, assuming we could sign him to a 5-7 year extension

Jerry Reinsdorf keeps saying "The money will be there if Kenny needs it", so I'm keeping my fingers crossed

I'm not going to be a homer and think we have a bonafide shot at landing A-Gon when our farm system isn't as deep as other teams, but we have cheap major league talent that we could include in the deal as well (Alexei Ramirez)

Also, we need to find a way to drop McLouth out of the leadoff spot and get Diaz to play every day. The man does nothing but hit over .300. I just noticed Diaz lead the team in stolen bases with 12, that horrible!

Prado's not a good leadoff guy. At least I don't think he's built for it. If Heyward had speed I'd put him there, but not as a rookie for obvious reasons. McLouth is stuck D:

Diaz is a weird player. He's better than just the short side of an outfield corner platoon, but somewhat stretched in a full-time roll. He's also on the wrong side of 30, so he's not getting any better. I could see the Braves doing what the Dodgers have been with four usable OFs, just rotating them all and playing the matchups. That is, if Heyward breaks with the team, and even if he doesn't Schafer isn't a terrible option.

McLouth gets deep into counts and draws walks though, if he could raise his BA a little bit to .275 range his OBP would be around .375(hit .257 and .354 last year). And Diaz can rake... against southpaws - so he is probably forever a platoon guy.

Yeah. I love Diaz as a player, but against righties... it's just hard to walk. Also, when he slumps, he reeeeally slumps.

Sadly, McLouth is our best top of the lineup option, which is actually a shame considering he's a good RBI guy, sort of like Escobar. Dropping Yunel down in the order *really* helped him.

SUNDAY, 5:58pm: GM Kenny Williams first spoke to Peavy about Gonzalez in January, writes Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. Peavy gave his stamp of approval, but the "feeling around 35th and Shields" was that it would take a package including Gordon Beckham to land the first baseman, and the White Sox weren't willing to go there.

So I doubt they can contend if they don't want to give away Beckham since they say including, which likely mean that package would be centered around him. I wish the Mets could get him, but it seems we're high on Ike Davis for now.
