Considering how many teams do well while being "financially challenged", I don't see how you even ask that.

I mean shit, look at their Cot's page of all those contracts. Dayton Moore is not a good GM.

You just explained why NBA has less parity in your other post: One player makes a NBA team good. MLB players are almost entirely fungible. Combined with the way the MLB financial system is set up, "financially challenged" teams can compete.

Let's look at it this way. The worst MLB teams hover around .400, the best MLB teams hover around .600.

NBA this season: best team, .744. Worst team, fucking .146. How is that more parity than MLB?

Worst team in NFL last three years have combined for two total wins, or a 0.042 win percentage. Best team has combined for 43 wins, or .896 win percentage. Now NFL is massively small sample size, but still.

I imagine the main reason people view it that way is the playoff systems. Half the teams in the NBA and NFL make the playoffs, where as only 8 teams make it in the MLB. Considering a successful season is seen as "making the playoffs", less total teams have "successful" seasons.

And just for more lawls at this post, and the last perfect game pitched a couple months ago was pitched by somebody making the minimum this season, has made the minimum the past two seasons, and will make a combined 10 mil or so for the next three years.

The date it happened is irrelevant; the season hadn't even started two months ago.

Did the Braves and Phillies swap offensive gameplans?

I'd be scared to be on the Phillies upcoming schedule, they're going to break out for 10+ runs one of these days. Hopefully they get it over with before coming up to play the Yanks

They play the Braves next, so.. >.>

And the Braves STILL can't get Kenshin Kawakami a win. Poor guy. On a decent time and in the starting rotation, STILL without a win. Even Kris Medlen has more.

Maybe, according to an SNY broadcast he's asked the brewers to take the sign down that counts down to his 600th save lol. I saw that game and couldn't help but laugh when I saw that.

Are you guys prepared for the Buster Posey era? In a few years he'll be the best catcher in baseball*.

    Spoiler: show

But they can't sign CC Sabathia.

The point isn't about "how much parity" there is - it's "why" (I don't know how you're missing this obvious point). In the NFL and NBA the teams operate on roughly equal playing fields - if Andre Johnson is coming up on a contract year, teams can clear cap room and go after him, since every team has the ability to spend up to the cap, and no team as the ability to spend over it.

Payroll doesn't mean everything, but when the top-flight free agents consistently go to the same handful of teams with money, it's problematic for competitive balance.

And yeah baseball's playoff system is dumb, especially considering the lack of salary cap. Basically the NFL (when under the previous CBA) got it right.

Too bad he's lost his closer job to my new favorite brewer:

Yeah, that's John Axford. Any time a manager can say "Bring me my Ax!" you know the other team is in for it.

    And his moustache is amazing.
