Mike Pelfrey the stopper for the Mets. Man he really, really has turned a corner this year and has matured beyond belief after last year. Now if we could just get another starter aside from Santana to win some games.

QQ moar about Polanco, HBPs happen. Ever heard of Jair Jurrjens? He is a pretty good pitcher that has missed a lot of time. And yeah shame on me for pointing out my team is in first, that's hardly gloating.

Braves tied a record last night by winning 7 straight games in which they scored 5+ runs and game up less than 3 per.

Oh and the rain excuse is so poor. Anyone remember Hudson's previous start where is was raining twice as hard and the umps didn't wanna call it until the inning was over? Hudson couldn't throw it over and kept slipping off the mound, yet he kept going.

Shit evens out. Phillies aren't gonna cruise to another division title this year. Sure they're probably gonna win the east again, but their pitching after Halliday is not good enough to make up for offensive struggles.

Whoa, someone else arguing in this thread besides Yankee and Red Sox fans?

It's a long season. The Phillies aren't going to keep hitting like the Royals and Troy Glaus isn't going to keep hitting like 2003 Barry Bonds.

Do people still think that Justin Morneau is a poor defensive first baseman? I think he's been pretty solid the past few years and he's been excellent this year. That argument comes up fairly often for some reason.

Are there any really good metrics for measuring fielding? It seems mostly subjective to me, but by watching hundreds of games it seems like Morneau has been as good defensively as most first basemen in the past few years.

Like I said earlier in the thread, defensive statistics are shit. Like... right now Russel Branyan is the best 1B in terms of range. Morneau is #1 in terms of runs saved. I've never seen anyone complain about his defense, he's always seemed solid to me. Of course, the guy is an excellent hitter, so maybe that's why it gets overlooked.

It's something that Tiger fans love to argue about when it comes to Morneau and Cabrera. In my opinion, Morneau is flat out better than Cabrera in the field. There's no reasoning with them though and they think that Morneau has similar brick-hands like Cabrera does.

Glaus is pretty locked in right now, but I think .260/ 30 HR/ 100 RBI with a high OBP is attainable the way Prado, Heyward, and Chipper get on base in front of him.

I don't think it's really going to be that big of a deal. Considering how nervous he'll probably be I think he might get shelled pretty good. The mets have a chance of facing him the next time the nats come around though so we'll see.

Hopefully Nats fans won't get too excited. I remember the day the Giants brought up Lincecum, everyone annoited him a savior immediately, and he got roughed up pretty good. Like 4 runs in under 6 innings if I remember correctly. In fact, after his first few starts, he nearly got demoted back to AAA.

Ask the Dodgers. They got swept by the pirates opening weekend, at home I believe.

I'm a little late, but holy hell Ranger fans must be stuffing the ballot box like crazy. Borbon shouldn't be anywhere remotely close on that list...

Eh. I usually don't count the first couple weeks as it looks like most people play on sea legs, but seriously. The Pirates are just.. it pains me to watch.

Could you or any Braves fan honestly say that you would not be mad at a pitcher if he hit Heyward(intentional or not) and caused him to struggle or miss time?
