At least this call is now infamous so everyone will be reminded of Galaragga's great performance?

Maybe it's better he doesn't get the celebration. Prevents a broken leg. Epic is incoming whether they change the boxscore or not. Epic fallout if they don't, and epic reversal if they do.

There's a large '24' written behind 2nd base in Seattle, that's pretty cool.

Too bad this shit storm had to happen on the day Jr. retired, it kind of overshadows that.

Was just about to come here and post exactly that. Griffey one of the few players out there who never won a championship ring that I feel bad for not winning one.

You know how the NBA has the Jerry West logo? MLB should have Griffey's swing as the logo. The swing is just a thing of beauty.

With that said, which sports writer is going to be the dick to not vote for him on the first ballot?

Probably the same one who didn't vote for Ripken jr on his ballot. Sports writers for some reason don't want a unanimous ballot in the HoF.

and as far as the dick who doesn't vote for Jr, probably some racist, white writer or something I'm sure.

Also, this thread turned into a huge back and forth shitstorm between a couple people. Let's keep the comparisons of NBA/NFL/MLB and the systems they have outta here, yo. No need for that shit.

I've been arguing somewhere else for the whole replay thing so I'm not touching this one here. I'm more on Tyche's side of the issue though.

With that said, this is a sad day for baseball. We lost one of the rarest accomplishments in the game to an asinine call and we lost one of the greatest players of all time to retirement.

I dunno how hard it'd be for the umps to have some sort of ear piece so they can keep in contact with a 'head umpire' up in the booth watching replays and what not. Would that be truly hard? Is baseball stupid enough to prefer human error to correct calls?

Also, a good read (lolESPNlol) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/column...son&id=5245064

Jason Stark's a fun read when he's not being stupid.

    Edited for stupidity

I thnk Ditka had a quote, "If the guy in the bar knows what the call should be, then the guys on the field should too".

It's just gotten to a point in baseball I think where the umps on the field make a decision that wrong, or right, can't be challenged in any form. Hell when was the last time someone argued with the ump and got a call overturned? A call made on the field should never be absolute. This illustrates the reason why.

Just watched the replay of that blown call... what the fuck? Clearly out and even if it was closer than that you'd think they'd give the pitcher the benefit of the doubt that he got the runner.

What is keeping MLB from correcting the call, and rewarding the pitcher with the perfect game?

There's no precedent to allow a change of a ruling made on the field after the game. Before they would rarely change calls and now they only change calls on home run balls that are questionable through the use of replay. The point that everyone is making I think is the one I brought up earlier, no call should be absolute. The problem is that, if they award Galarraga with the perfect game now that the game is complete, any other 9th inning blown or questionable call will also need to be reversed. But if they implement instant replay governing calls made in the field, it wouldn't matter. So we'll see how they approach it.

Being a knowledgeable sports fan, I understand that there's basically no precedent for changing calls.

    Time for that to change.

The outcome of the game doesn't change if you make the right call. Only the record books.
